Frameless vs Framed Shower Partition: Which Suits Your Bathroom? by FabWise in Gurugram & Noida

A frameless shower partition is clear toughened glass held by small hinges and clamps, with no metal around the panels. A framed (slim-profile) partition sets the same glass inside thin aluminium sections, usually matte black. In Gurgaon and Noida, frameless suits most new bathrooms with straight walls; the framed slim profile suits older or uneven bathrooms and anyone who wants the black-grid look, and it costs more.

That last point surprises people, because in many markets a frame means a cheaper cubicle. At FabWise it is the other way round: the slim-profile range uses imported matte black aluminium profiles on top of the same 10mm Saint-Gobain glass, so it starts at ₹1,100 per sq ft against ₹500 per sq ft for frameless with a hinged door. Choose it for what it does, not to save money.

What is the difference between frameless and framed, in practice?

The glass is the same thickness in both, so neither is stronger or safer in the way people sometimes assume. What changes is how the glass is held, how it looks, and how forgiving it is of the room.

Why does the framed slim profile cost more?

Three reasons, all to do with material and labour rather than the glass:

  • The profiles themselves. The slim-profile range uses imported matte black aluminium sections, which cost more than the handful of SS304 fittings a frameless panel needs.
  • More cutting and assembly. Every panel is framed on its edges, so there is mitring, joining and fixing before the glass goes in.
  • Finish matching. Black profiles, hinges and handles are kept to one finish so the frame reads as one piece.

A worked example on 35 sq ft of glass, a typical 5 ft wide partition 7 ft tall: frameless with a hinged door starts around ₹17,500, while the slim-profile version starts around ₹38,500. For a corner, the slim-profile enclosure starts at ₹1,100 per sq ft against ₹500 per sq ft for the frameless L-shaped enclosure. Our shower cubicle cost guide lists every style side by side.

When is frameless the right choice?

  • New bathrooms in recent societies, where walls are plastered and tiled true. Most bathrooms on Golf Course Extension Road or along the Noida Expressway fall here.
  • Small bathrooms, where a frame would draw lines across a tight space. See our small bathroom shower partition designs.
  • Anyone who wants the easiest glass to clean, especially with hard borewell water.
  • Marble or statement tiles you want to see uninterrupted.

When does a framed shower partition make more sense?

  • Older bathrooms with walls out of plumb. Many independent houses and builder floors in Gurugram, in Old Gurgaon, Sushant Lok or the DLF Phases were plastered by hand decades ago. A frame can absorb small variations that frameless glass cannot, since toughened glass cannot be trimmed after toughening.
  • Industrial or monochrome interiors where the black grid is the point: black taps, black shower set, grey tiles.
  • Tall glass with a visible top edge, where a frame gives the panel a finished outline.
  • People who prefer a definite door edge to hold and see, especially in homes with elderly family members.

Does a frame seal better against leaks?

Not by default. Leaks almost always come from the bottom edge and the door gap, and both types use seals and silicone there. A frameless partition relies on the floor slope and a bottom seal strip; a framed one has a profile along the edges but still needs the same care at the base. If you already have a leaking door, our page on shower door leaking explains the usual causes, and worn shower seal strips is the most common one.

Which one ages better?

Frameless glass with SS304 fittings resists rust, but the hinges carry the full weight of the door, so a heavy door on a badly set hinge can drop over time; see shower door sagging. A framed partition spreads the load along the profile, but the powder-coated or anodised black finish can scratch if scrubbed with abrasive pads. Neither needs much: a squeegee after showers, a gentle cleaner weekly, and a check of hinge screws once a year.

How do you decide at the site visit?

  1. Show us the bathroom and tell us the look you want. Photos of bathrooms you like help.
  2. We check walls and floor with a level. If the walls are true, both options are open; if not, the frame may be the practical one.
  3. You get a written quote for the option you choose, or both, usually within about 2 hours, valid 3 days.

The visit costs ₹99 and is adjusted against the bill if you proceed; it is usually arranged within 24 to 48 hours in Gurgaon, Noida and Delhi. Browse every bathroom style in the shower cubicle catalogue, then book a visit when you are ready to measure.

Common questions

Is a framed shower partition cheaper than frameless?

Not at FabWise. Our framed slim-profile partition starts at ₹1,100 per sq ft, while frameless with a hinged door starts at ₹500 per sq ft. Both use the same 10mm Saint-Gobain toughened glass; the framed version adds imported matte black aluminium profiles and more assembly. Choose the frame for its look or for uneven walls, not to cut cost.

Is frameless glass weaker than framed glass in a shower?

No. Both use 10mm toughened glass, which is several times stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness. The frame does not make the glass stronger; it changes how the panel is held and how it looks. Safety depends more on correct thickness, sound fixing into the wall and properly set hinges than on whether there is a frame.

Which is better for an old bathroom, frameless or framed?

If the walls are noticeably out of plumb, a framed slim-profile partition is usually more practical, because the aluminium profile can take up small gaps. Frameless glass is cut to size before toughening and cannot be trimmed later, so it needs walls close to true. The site visit checks this with a level before you commit.

Black frame wala shower partition kitne ka padta hai?

The black slim-profile shower partition with a door starts at ₹1,100 per sq ft, and the slim-profile corner enclosure at ₹1,100 per sq ft. Multiply by the glass area for a rough budget; a 5 ft by 7 ft partition is about 35 sq ft. The written quote after measurement gives the exact figure.

Do frameless shower partitions leak more than framed ones?

Not inherently. Most leaks come from the bottom edge, the door gap or a worn seal strip, and both types use seals and silicone there. A correct floor slope toward the drain matters more than the frame. If a door already leaks, replacing the seal strip or adjusting the hinges usually fixes it.

What warranty do frameless and framed shower partitions have?

Both carry a 1 year functional warranty on hardware, as listed for each bathroom style. The warranty covers fittings, not the glass. A fixed shower screen with no door has no moving hardware and does not carry that warranty line.
