Why people pick the black frame over frameless

Two reasons, and price is not one of them. On our rate card the slim-profile partition is a premium style at ₹1,100 per sq ft, against ₹500 per sq ft for the frameless shower partition with door. The profile wraps the same 10mm toughened glass as an addition, so it adds material and setting-out work rather than saving any.

The first reason is the look. Matte black lines frame the shower like a window, pair with black taps, shower heads and towel rails, and suit the industrial and monochrome bathrooms that many renovations now aim for.

The second is the building. Older houses and builder floors often have walls that lean or bow by a few millimetres. A frameless panel meeting such a wall shows a tapering gap; a profile channel hides it.

Profiles, glass and the hinged door

The glass is 10mm Saint-Gobain toughened glass, the same as our frameless bathroom work. Around it run imported matte black aluminium profiles: a wall channel on each side, usually a floor channel or sill under the fixed panel, and a slim frame on the door itself.

The profiles are fixed first and set true, then the glass is seated in them with gaskets. That is what lets the system absorb small irregularities in tiling. The door hangs on hinges matched to the black finish, and the leaf closes against a profile with a magnetic or compression seal, which tends to make framed doors a little more watertight at the closing edge than frameless ones.

Because aluminium is softer than glass, the black finish is the part to protect: scouring pads and harsh cleaners can dull it over time.

The hardware carries a 1 year functional warranty. Warranty covers fittings, not glass. Special finishes beyond the documented matte black can be discussed at the visit, depending on availability and suitability.

The rate is per sq ft of glass, door included, starting at ₹1,100 per sq ft. Two typical bathrooms:

Standard bathroom, 4 ft wide × 6.5 ft high (26 sq ft): ₹28,600

Larger bathroom, 5 ft × 7 ft (35 sq ft): ₹38,500

For the same 35 sq ft, a frameless partition would be ₹17,500. The difference is the profile and the work of setting it straight, which is what you are paying for if you want the black outline or need to cover uneven walls.

Renovating an older bathroom with a framed partition

This style is often chosen during a renovation, so timing matters. Ideally book the ₹99 site visit once tiling and plumbing are finished; the visit is usually arranged within 24–48 hours. The team measures the opening at several heights, records how far each wall leans, checks the floor fall towards the drain, and agrees the door direction and hinge side with you.

The written, all-inclusive quotation is aimed at within about 2 hours of the visit and is valid for 3 days. After the 50% advance, the glass goes into production, which generally takes 7–10 days for toughened glass, and the profiles are prepared to your sizes.

Installation runs profile first, then glass, then door, then seals and silicone. The shower stays off while the silicone cures. The balance 50% is paid on completion.

Care for matte black and for the door

Matte black aluminium shows water spots more than chrome does, so the squeegee habit matters even more here. Wipe the profiles with a soft damp cloth and a mild, non-acidic cleaner. Avoid limescale removers on the frame unless the label says they are safe for coated aluminium, and never use scouring pads.
