Shower glass partitions and enclosures in Faridabad

Faridabad homes reach the shower-glass question at two very different moments. In the new societies of Greater Faridabad, along the Bypass Road and across the canal in the sector 75–89 belt, owners take possession of flats where the shower is a tiled corner with a drain and nothing else. In the older HUDA sectors and NIT, families are renovating bathrooms in houses that are thirty or forty years old. The right shower glass partition for each is different, and so is the order of work.

New possession in Greater Faridabad: decide before you shift in

A fresh flat is the easiest place to fit shower glass: the tiles are new, the walls are usually plumb and nobody is using the bathroom yet. Many of these flats place the shower in a corner beside the window, which makes an L-shaped enclosure the natural fit. If the bathroom door or the WC is close, the L-shape enclosure with a slider avoids any swing; if there is room, the L-shape enclosure with a hinged door has fewer moving parts. Doing all the bathrooms in one visit and one order is simpler than one at a time.

• Check whether the society needs fit-out registration and a deposit before workers are allowed in.
• Have the mixer, shower head and towel rails fixed first: the glass is measured around them.
• Look at where the floor slopes to the drain, because a partition placed on the wrong side of the slope traps water.

Renovating in the HUDA sectors and NIT

In Sectors 14, 15, 16, 21 or 28, or in the older houses of NIT, the bathroom has usually been re-tiled at least once, sometimes over the old tiles. Walls may lean and corners may not be square. Two choices work well here. A slim profile shower enclosure or slim profile partition has a thin black frame that takes up small errors in the wall. Or, if the bathroom is long and narrow, a single fixed frameless screen leaves the shower open at one end and needs no door alignment at all.

Working out a corner enclosure

Corner enclosures are measured as the two glass sides added together. A corner shower of 3 ft by 3.5 ft with 6.5 ft glass is about 42 sq ft of glass. Faridabad's groundwater and your glass

Large parts of Faridabad depend on groundwater, which is commonly hard. On shower glass this shows as white spots and a chalky film, and in hinges as stiffness. It is a cleaning issue rather than a safety one, but it argues for fewer fittings near the floor and for wiping the glass down after use.
