Glass and metal fabrication in Delhi is shaped less by the product than by the building it goes into. South Delhi: kothis turned builder floors

Across Greater Kailash, Defence Colony and Safdarjung Enclave, most old single-family houses have been rebuilt as stilt-plus-four builder floors. Each floor needs a frameless shower partition with door, a balcony railing, a stilt gate and often a terrace pergola. Vasant Vihar adds diplomatic residences, where security protocols shape the job.

Markets and offices in the centre

Connaught Place falls under the NDMC rather than the MCD, and its colonnades and signage are policed accordingly. Lajpat Nagar is dense market retail with homes above. Nehru Place is older office blocks around the IT hardware market: cabins, floor springs and shutters.

DDA flats, farmhouses and industrial plots

In Vasant Kunj and Saket, DDA flats get new windows, mesh and grills more often than anything else. The farmhouse belt around Chhatarpur and Mehrauli needs long sliding gates, car sheds and large pergolas. Okhla Industrial Area and the other industrial estates need mezzanines, shutters and sheds that work hard every day.

Delhi realities that change the design

• Permissions. Builder floors, DDA flats and gated colonies each have their own rules on facade changes, terrace structures and projections. Check with your RWA and the MCD (or NDMC in Lutyens' Delhi and Connaught Place) before a terrace shed or balcony enclosure; we flag what we see at the visit.
• Old walls. Walls in a fifty-year-old house are rarely plumb or square. Toughened glass cannot be cut after tempering, so we measure in several places and allow for the worst dimension, not the average.
• Narrow lanes. In older colonies and around markets, a truck may stop at the main road. Long gate frames or shutter barrels are then carried in or fabricated in sections and joined on site.
• Heat, monsoon and dust. Summer heat yellows cheap polycarbonate, monsoon rain tests every joint, and winter dust and smog grind sliding tracks. UV-protected sheets, proper slopes and drainage, and primed and painted or powder-coated steel are what last here.

How a Delhi job runs

2. We visit, usually within 24 to 48 hours, measure, and check the lane, the stairs and any RWA conditions.
3. A written, all-inclusive quote follows, aimed within about 2 hours and valid for 3 days.
4. A 50% advance starts fabrication; toughened glass generally takes 7 to 10 days to produce.
5. We install, and the balance 50% is paid on completion.
