Gates, Railings, Shower Glass & Windows in Model Town, Delhi

Model Town is a long-settled residential colony in North Delhi, divided into Phases I, II and III and close to the Grand Trunk Road. Its landmarks include the Naini Lake park, and the Yellow Line's Model Town station sits in Phase I, between Azadpur and GTB Nagar. The colony is mostly independent houses on plots, with tree-lined internal roads, and a steady wave of old houses being demolished and rebuilt as three- and four-storey builder floors.

Two kinds of job come out of that: restoring an old house that the family is keeping, and finishing a new floor that has just been built. They need the same products but very different handling.

Keeping an old house: gates, grills and stairs

Older Model Town houses often have heavy ornamental gates and grills from decades ago. The steel is usually sound in the middle and rotten at the bottom, where rainwater sits. Before replacing, it is worth knowing which faults are repairable:

Finishing a rebuilt builder floor

Buyers of new floors in Model Town usually receive the shell with basic fittings and add the rest. A typical finishing list:

Neighbours and shared parts

A builder floor shares its stair, stilt and roof with the other owners. Anything on a shared part, like a gate at the stilt or a shed on a common roof, goes better with the other owners' agreement in hand. Internal lanes are quiet residential streets, so deliveries are easy, but very long panels still need the stair turn checked.

Near the coaching belt

Model Town borders the GTB Nagar and Mukherjee Nagar area, where many houses are let as student rooms and PGs. Landlords converting a house usually need grills, a safety door at each floor and simple shower glass in every bathroom. A fixed frameless shower partition is the hard-wearing, low-maintenance choice for rented rooms.
