SS304 balcony and terrace railings
A stainless steel railing of posts, a top handrail and infill, fixed to a balcony or terrace edge by base plates or side mounting. Infill is horizontal rods, vertical balusters, wire, or toughened glass held in clamps. Stainless needs no paint and does not rust in the open, which is why it is specified for exposed balconies and terraces; the grade decides how well it keeps that promise. SS304 holds its finish outdoors; SS202 costs less and is better kept to covered, indoor positions. Finish is brushed (satin) or mirror. Priced per running foot of railing after the run is measured on site.
Stainless steel is the default railing for a modern balcony because it needs no paint and does not rust, as long as it is the right grade. FabWise measures the balcony or terrace edge, agrees the design and the steel grade with you in writing, then fabricates and fixes the railing. Visits across Gurugram and Noida cost ₹99, credited to the bill.
SS304 or SS202: the grade decides how long it stays bright
Two grades of stainless steel are sold for railings in the NCR, and they look identical on the day they are fitted.
SS304 contains more nickel and chromium. It resists rust outdoors, in rain and in the fine dust that settles on Gurgaon balconies, and keeps its finish for years with occasional cleaning. It is the grade to specify for any balcony, terrace or open staircase.
SS202 replaces part of the nickel with manganese, which makes it cheaper. Indoors it performs reasonably. Outdoors it is prone to brown spotting and tea staining, especially around welds, within a few monsoons. Many complaints that a stainless railing is rusting turn out to be SS202 fitted outside.
FabWise states the grade on the written quote, so you know what you are paying for. A magnet is not a reliable test, but a supplier's mill certificate is. For a full comparison with mild steel, read MS vs SS railing in Gurgaon.
Designs: rods, balusters, wire and glass
Every SS railing starts with posts at regular spacing and a handrail on top, usually round or square tube. What changes is the infill between them.
Horizontal rods are the most common modern look, clean and light, but they can act as a ladder for young children; on a high balcony, many families choose vertical infill instead. Vertical balusters are safer for children and give a more classic look. Stainless wire or cable gives the most open view but needs tensioning hardware. Glass infill set in stainless clamps or brackets between the posts combines the open view with a solid barrier; for a fully frameless look, see glass balcony railing.
Posts are fixed either on base plates bolted onto the floor, or side-mounted to the face of the slab, which keeps the floor clear and stops water collecting around the base. The finish is brushed (satin), which hides fingerprints, or mirror, which is brighter but shows every mark.
All railing styles are on the railings catalogue.
Balcony railings in Gurugram and Noida societies
In a high-rise society, the balcony railing is part of the facade, and RWAs treat it that way. Most societies along Golf Course Extension Road, Dwarka Expressway and Sohna Road in Gurugram, and on Noida Expressway and in Sector 150, have rules on railing height, design and colour, so that every balcony matches. Some allow only replacement in the original design. Ask the RWA office for the specification before the visit; the team will build to it.
The bigger freedom is on builder floors and independent houses in areas like the DLF Phases, South City and Nirvana Country, where owners often replace an old MS railing that has rusted through with stainless. There the choice is wide open.
Height matters for safety. A balcony railing is commonly around 3.5 feet or more above the finished floor, and higher on upper floors. If planters or a step sit near the edge, measure from the top of those, since a child will climb them.

What decides the price of an SS railing
SS railings are priced by the running foot, but the rate depends on what goes into each foot, so FabWise quotes after measuring. The SS railing price guide explains it in detail.
The grade is the first factor: SS304 costs more than SS202, and it is worth it outdoors. Tube size and wall thickness come next; a thicker handrail and heavier posts feel more solid and cost more. The infill follows: rods are economical, balusters use more steel, wire needs tensioners, and glass adds the glass and its clamps.
Post spacing and fixing add up along a long terrace. Side-mounted posts need heavier brackets than base-plated ones. The finish matters too, since mirror polish takes more labour than brushed. Corners, curves and steps each need extra fabrication, so an L-shaped terrace costs more per foot than a straight balcony.
On site, removing an old railing and making good the floor or the slab edge is part of the price where needed.
Fitting, and keeping stainless steel bright
The visit costs ₹99. The team measures the run, notes corners, levels and the edge condition, and checks what the posts will anchor into. A written, all-inclusive quote usually follows within about two hours and stays valid for three days. Fabrication starts on a 50% advance, and the railing is welded and polished in the workshop where possible, so site welding is kept to a minimum. On site, posts are anchored, the handrail fitted, the infill fixed, and welds ground and re-polished. The balance is paid on completion.
Stainless needs cleaning, not painting. Wipe it with mild soapy water every few weeks, more often during dusty months, and rinse. A stainless cleaner brings back the shine. Avoid steel wool and bleach-based or acid cleaners (including the tile acid used on balcony floors), which leave rust-coloured marks on any grade. If a post starts to move, read about a wobbling railing and fix it early.

Common questions
How much does an SS balcony railing cost in Gurgaon?
It is priced per running foot, but the rate depends on the steel grade, tube sizes, infill design, fixing method and finish, so FabWise quotes it after measuring at a ₹99 visit. An SS304 railing with glass infill costs more than an SS202 rod railing. The written quote usually comes within about two hours.
Does a stainless steel railing rust?
SS304 resists rust outdoors and keeps its finish with occasional cleaning. SS202 is cheaper but can develop brown spots outdoors, especially around welds. Any grade can mark if acid tile cleaner or steel wool is used on it. Ask for the grade in writing; FabWise states it on every quote.
SS 304 aur SS 202 mein kya fark hai?
SS304 has more nickel and chromium, so it resists rust outdoors and is the grade for balconies and terraces. SS202 uses manganese instead of part of the nickel, which makes it cheaper but more likely to stain in rain. Indoors the difference matters less. Outdoors, choose SS304.
Do I need RWA permission to change my balcony railing?
In most high-rise societies in Gurgaon and Noida, yes. The railing is part of the facade, and RWAs often set the design, height and colour. Some allow only a like-for-like replacement. Builder floors and independent houses are usually free to choose. Ask your RWA office before the site visit.
Are horizontal rod railings safe with small children?
Horizontal rods are popular, but children can use them as a ladder. On an upper-floor balcony with young children, vertical balusters, glass infill, or a solid lower panel are safer choices. Keep planters and furniture away from the edge, since they can also be climbed.
How long does an SS railing installation take?
Fabrication begins after the 50% advance, and the timeline comes with the quote. Installation on a typical balcony is usually done in a day; a long terrace or a railing with glass infill can take longer. Most welding and polishing is done in the workshop to keep site work short.

- What is glass railing spigots?Glass railing spigots are short, heavy stainless steel posts, bolted to the floor or core-drilled into it, that clamp the bottom of each glass panel at two or more points so a railing looks almost frameless without a continuous base channel.
- What is glass railing u-channel?A glass railing U-channel (base shoe) is a continuous aluminium or steel channel fixed to the floor or slab edge that clamps the bottom of the glass panels, letting a balcony or stair railing stand without posts.
- What is laminated glass?Laminated glass is two or more glass panes permanently bonded with a plastic interlayer, usually PVB, so that the glass stays held together and in place when it breaks.
- What is ss304 vs ss202?SS304 and SS202 are two austenitic stainless steel grades: SS304 carries about 18% chromium and 8% nickel and resists rust well outdoors, while SS202 swaps much of the nickel for manganese, costs less and stains sooner in damp or polluted air.
