Stainless steel and glass staircase railings

A handrail and balustrade fabricated to follow the rake, turns and landings of an internal staircase. Posts are fixed to the treads or the stringer side; infill is stainless balusters, horizontal rods, or toughened glass held in clamps or a base channel. The handrail is stainless tube, or a timber rail on a steel balustrade for a warmer feel. A wall-mounted handrail is fitted on the wall side where needed. Because every turn and landing is cut and welded to the measured stair, the railing is made to the site, quoted after measuring, and fitted with the joints ground and polished in place.

A staircase railing is the most-touched piece of metalwork in a house, and the one that most shows poor fabrication. FabWise measures every flight, turn and landing, agrees the design with you, and fabricates the railing to follow the stair exactly, with every joint ground and polished on site. Visits across Gurugram and Noida cost ₹99, adjusted against the final bill.

Stainless, glass or both: choosing a staircase railing

Stainless steel balusters with a stainless handrail are the most common choice in new houses: durable, easy to clean, and safe for children when the gaps are kept narrow. Horizontal rods look lighter and more modern, but children climb them like a ladder; many families keep rods for adult-only stairs.

Glass balustrades use toughened glass panels clamped to stainless posts, or held in a channel along the stair edge, with a handrail on top. They make a narrow stairwell feel much wider and let light from a window reach the floors below. Glass on a stair is cut to the rake of each flight, so every panel is measured and made to order; toughened glass production generally takes 7 to 10 days.

Timber handrails on a stainless or MS balustrade give a warm feel underfoot and in the hand, and suit homes with wooden flooring. MS balustrades, painted or powder coated, suit design-led interiors where a black or coloured rail is wanted.

The same choices on a balcony are covered under SS balcony railing and glass balcony railing.

Stairs in Gurugram builder floors, villas and duplexes

Most staircase railing jobs fall into three groups. Builder floors in the DLF Phases, Sushant Lok and South City share a common staircase that serves four floors, and owners often replace a rusted MS railing with stainless, because a common stair is used hard and nobody wants to repaint it. These stairs are usually straight flights with half landings, which keeps fabrication simple.

Villas and independent houses in areas like Nirvana Country, Golf Course Road and Noida's sector villas have private internal stairs, often with a double-height void, where glass balustrades are popular. The railing around the void at the top is designed together with the stair so the look runs on.

Duplex penthouses in high-rise towers have an internal stair inside the flat, which the RWA rarely controls, though the building's lift sets the maximum size of any glass panel brought up.

For a new stair to a roof or loft, see our metal staircases. All railing types are on the railings catalogue.

Safety details that matter on a stair

A staircase railing has to be safer than a balcony railing in one way: people rely on it while moving. A few details make the difference.

Handrail height is commonly around 3 feet measured vertically from the nose of the tread, and higher around a void or landing where someone could fall a full floor. Baluster spacing of around 4 inches or less stops a small child slipping through. The handrail profile should be easy to grip: round or rounded tube of a size a hand can close around, rather than a wide flat bar.

Continuity matters to elderly family members. A rail that runs unbroken past each turn, rather than stopping at every post, is far easier to hold all the way. A wall-side handrail on brackets helps on wide stairs or where the stair is used by someone unsteady.

Fixing strength is the last detail. Posts must be anchored into solid tread or stringer, not just into tiles or a marble skin. A post that moves is the first sign of trouble; see railing wobbling.

What changes the price of a staircase railing

A staircase railing is quoted per running foot after measuring, but the stair itself shapes the price more than on a straight balcony. The SS railing price guide and glass railing price guide explain the materials in detail.

Material comes first: SS304 balusters, a glass balustrade, or painted MS each sit at a different level, and a timber handrail adds its own cost. Turns and landings come second. Every change of direction needs a bent or welded joint, and a winding stair costs noticeably more per foot than a straight flight. Glass on a stair costs more than glass on a balcony, because each panel is cut to the rake.

Fixing varies with the stair: top-fixed posts on treads, side-fixed posts on the stringer face, or a channel along the edge. The finish (brushed or mirror stainless, powder-coat colour) and any wall handrail are added in. Removing an old railing and making good the marble or tiles where posts came out is part of the quote where needed.

How the job runs, and keeping it clean

Book the ₹99 visit. The team measures every flight, the rake, each turn and landing, and checks what the posts will anchor into. The written, all-inclusive quote usually comes within about two hours and is valid for three days. Fabrication starts after a 50% advance. Stainless sections are bent and welded in the workshop as far as possible; joints at turns are welded on site and then ground and polished so they disappear. Glass panels, if used, are cut to the rake and toughened before fitting. The balance is paid on completion.

Stainless needs a wipe with mild soapy water and a soft cloth; a stainless cleaner restores the shine. Keep tile and marble acid cleaners off the posts, as they mark stainless. Clean glass with water first to lift dust, then a squeegee. A timber handrail benefits from a wipe of polish or oil now and then, and should be kept dry when the stairs are mopped.

Common questions

Which staircase railing is best for a house in Gurgaon?

For most houses, an SS304 stainless railing with vertical balusters is the safest, lowest-upkeep choice. Glass balustrades suit stairs with a double-height void where light matters. A timber handrail on a steel balustrade adds warmth. The team suggests options at the site visit based on your stair and family.

What is the right height for a staircase handrail?

A handrail is commonly around 3 feet high, measured vertically from the front edge of the tread, and higher around a landing or void where someone could fall a full floor. The baluster gap should usually be around 4 inches or less where children live. The team sets these at the visit.

Seedhi ki railing glass ki lagwayein ya steel ki?

Steel balusters are tougher, cheaper and easy to clean. Glass makes the stairwell feel bigger and lets light through, but costs more and needs regular wiping. Many homes combine them, with glass panels between stainless posts and a stainless handrail on top.

Can a new staircase railing be fixed without breaking my marble?

Usually, yes. Posts are fixed by drilling neat holes through the marble or tiles into the concrete below, then sealing around the base. Side-fixed posts on the stringer face avoid the treads altogether. Removing an old railing may leave holes, which are filled or covered by the new base plates.

How long does a staircase railing take to fit?

After the 50% advance, fabrication follows the timeline in the quote. A stainless railing on a typical two-flight stair is usually installed in one or two days, including welding and polishing the joints. A glass balustrade waits for the glass to be toughened, which generally takes 7 to 10 days.
