SS, glass and MS railings in Noida

Searching for an SS railing in Noida usually means one of three things: a balcony in a new flat that the builder left with a low parapet, a kothi terrace or staircase being redone, or a glass balustrade for a duplex or penthouse. Each wants a different material, and the material question is the one most people get stuck on, so this page starts there.

High floors, wind and dust: what Noida's towers ask of a railing

A railing on the 25th floor of a tower in Sector 150 or along the Noida Expressway faces wind loads that a ground-floor terrace never does. Noida's pre-monsoon dust storms arrive fast and hard across open land, and a railing that is fine on a still day can flex if its posts are too far apart or anchored into a thin screed instead of the slab. For glass, that is why the fixing (a continuous floor channel, or posts with clamps at measured centres) matters more than the glass itself. Glass in a balustrade is commonly toughened and laminated, so that if a panel breaks the pieces stay in place rather than falling.

Dust is the other high-floor reality. A glass railing on a Noida balcony will look clear for days, not weeks, between cleans. If you are not prepared to clean it, stainless steel with a horizontal or vertical bar infill keeps the view open without showing every dust storm.

Society rules and the facade

In group housing, the balcony railing is part of the building's elevation, and most Noida societies do not let residents change it freely. Common rules are that the existing railing stays, that any extra railing or grill goes on the inside of it, and that the colour and pattern match the rest of the tower. New-possession towers in Noida Extension are often strict about this while the builder still runs maintenance. Bring the society's written rule to the site visit and we will design within it; if you need the maintenance office's approval, get it before you pay the advance.

Kothis in Sectors 44 to 50 have no society to answer to, and that is where full terrace railings, MS boundary railings and new staircase balustrades are most common, often as part of a rebuild into builder floors.

Duplex flats and penthouses on the top floors of Expressway and Sector 150 towers bring a third kind of railing job: an internal staircase with a glass or stainless steel balustrade. The stair is usually already built by the developer, sometimes with a basic MS railing to replace. Because the railing follows the line of each step and turns at the landing, it is measured on the finished stair, after the flooring is laid.

What changes the price of a railing

1. Running length. Railings are measured in running ft along the edge; corners and returns add posts.
2. Material and grade. SS304 costs more than SS202; glass costs more than either; MS costs least to start but adds painting.
3. Infill. Plain horizontal rails, vertical bars, a glass infill or a decorative panel each change the material and the labour.
4. Height. A taller railing for a high floor or a child-safe design uses more material.
5. Fixing. Top-of-slab posts, side-fixed posts or a recessed glass channel each need different work, and a channel may need the floor finish opened.
6. Stairs. Sloped sections, turns and landings on a staircase take more fabrication than a straight balcony run.
