Balcony, staircase and terrace railings in Delhi

FabWise makes and fits stainless steel, glass and MS railings in Delhi for balconies, staircases and terraces. Railings are quoted after a site visit, usually per running ft, because the material, grade, height and fixing method change the price more than the length does.

Frameless toughened glass balcony railing with a steel top handrail on an upper-floor balcony

Most railing work in Delhi follows a builder floor's progress up the plot: the staircase railing goes in while the building is still a shell, the balcony railings once the facade is plastered, and the terrace railing last. In older kothis it runs the other way: a 1980s MS railing on the stairs, rusted at the base, finally replaced with stainless steel or glass. This page sets out the four railing types, where each works in a Delhi house, and the details people regret skipping.

Where the railing goes changes what you should choose

Front balconies of builder floors

The front balcony is the face of a builder floor, and in colonies like Greater Kailash, Hauz Khas and Punjabi Bagh it is where owners spend on glass. A glass balcony railing on a U-channel or spigots gives the open look, with a steel top rail. Because the balcony overhangs the street, the glass is chosen for what happens if it breaks: laminated glass holds together where toughened glass alone falls in pieces.

Internal staircases in kothis and builder floors

A shared staircase in a builder floor takes daily traffic from four households, prams and furniture moves. A staircase railing here should be fixed into the side of the stair (side-mounted) where the treads are narrow, so the walking width is not lost. In a kothi's private stair, wood-topped steel or glass are common choices.

Terraces and rear balconies

Terraces in Delhi are used: for drying clothes, for winter sun, for kids. A terrace railing should be at least as high as the balcony one and have no horizontal rails a child can climb. MS railings are common here for cost, painted to match the grills. Our balcony railing height and safety guide covers heights and gaps.

SS 304 or SS 202 in Delhi?

Stainless steel is not one material. SS304 has more chromium and nickel and resists rust well outdoors; SS202 is cheaper and fine for indoor stairs but can show brown rust spots on an open balcony, particularly where monsoon rain and smog residue sit on it. For an exposed front balcony in Delhi, 304 is the safer grade. Our SS304 vs SS202 explainer and the guide to SS railing grades 304, 202 and 316 go deeper, and if spots have already appeared, see rust spots on an SS railing.

What makes one railing quote higher than another

What changes a railing price in Delhi
FactorWhy it matters
Material and gradeSS304 over SS202; laminated over plain toughened glass
HeightTaller railings use more material and stronger posts
FixingTop-mounted, side-mounted, or glass in a channel cut into the slab
ShapeCurved balconies and winding stairs take more fabrication
AccessUpper floors with no scaffold access take longer to fit safely

For figures by type, see the SS railing price guide and the glass railing price guide. Choosing between steel types? Read MS vs SS railing; the comparison holds for Delhi. For a glass balcony specifically, the glass balcony railing guide covers thickness and fixings.

Railings that have already gone wrong

In older houses the common faults are a railing that wobbles because its base plate has rusted through, or a handrail that has come loose from the wall. On glass railings, a panel that moves in its channel needs the packing re-set before the gap grows. Send a photo first.

How a railing job runs

  1. A ₹99 site visit (adjusted against the bill), usually within 24–48 hours, to measure every run and check the slab edge.
  2. A written all-inclusive quote, usually within about 2 hours, valid for 3 days.
  3. 50% advance; fabrication, and glass production if needed, which takes around 7–10 days for toughened panels.
  4. Fixing on site, then the balance on completion.

Railings for Gurugram homes are on the Gurgaon railings page; for every other service in the capital, see FabWise in Delhi. Send a photo of the balcony or stair on WhatsApp to begin.

Common questions

What is the price of SS railing per running ft in Delhi?

Railings are quoted after a site visit rather than from a fixed rate, usually per running ft. The figure depends on the grade (SS304 or SS202), pipe size, height, design and fixing method. The written quote lists these, is all-inclusive for the agreed scope and stays valid for 3 days.

Is a glass railing safe on a builder floor balcony?

Yes, when it is designed for it: toughened or laminated glass of the right thickness, fixed in a proper channel or on spigots, with a top handrail. Over a street, laminated glass is the safer choice because it stays in place if it breaks. The visit checks the slab edge can take the fixing.

Which is better for a Delhi balcony, SS 304 or SS 202?

For an open balcony, SS304. It resists rust better in monsoon rain and polluted air. SS202 costs less and is fine for indoor staircases but can develop brown spots outdoors. The grade should be written in your quotation so you know what you are getting.

Seedhi ki railing kitni oonchi honi chahiye?

Staircase railings in homes are commonly around 3 ft measured from the front edge of the tread, and balcony and terrace railings higher, often around 3.5 ft. Gaps between balusters should be small enough that a child cannot pass through. The exact height is agreed at the site visit to suit the stair and the building.

Can you replace an old MS staircase railing in a kothi?

Yes. The old railing is cut out and a new one in SS, glass or MS fixed in its place. The visit checks the condition of the stair edge, because the old base plates are often rusted into the concrete and the new fixings need sound material. Send photos of the stair first.

Do railings come with a warranty?

FabWise does not publish a warranty for the railing styles, so none is promised. Long life comes from the right grade of steel for the location, fixings into sound concrete, and occasional cleaning. Glass railings should have their fixings checked now and then, especially after a storm.
