Greater Kailash, split into GK-1 and GK-2 near Lala Lajpat Rai Marg and the Outer Ring Road, is one of South Delhi's most redeveloped colonies. The original bungalows on large plots have largely given way to builder floors: a stilt car park at ground level, four independent floors above, and a terrace that often belongs to the top-floor buyer. Shower enclosures, one floor at a time

The front of the building: railings and gates

Developers in GK compete on the facade, and a glass balcony railing is now common on the front of new floors. It needs a solid slab edge for the U-channel or spigots. Stilt parking means the main gate is wide and used many times a day. An MS sliding gate avoids swinging into the lane where cars are parked on both sides, which is the norm in most GK blocks. Its ground track must be level and kept free of grit.

Terraces

The M Block and N Block markets

Glass railings have no fixed published rate. The price depends on the running length, the glass thickness, whether it uses a U-channel or spigots, and the top rail. Can different floors in the same GK building have different shower enclosures?

Yes. Each floor is usually owned separately, so each owner chooses their own style. Matching the glass and fittings across floors is only a matter of choosing the same style. We measure each bathroom on its own, because floor and wall levels often differ slightly from floor to floor.

Stilt parking ke liye sliding gate theek hai ya swing gate?

In most GK lanes a sliding gate is better, because a swing gate needs clear space to open and the lane is usually lined with parked cars. A sliding gate needs a level track and room along the boundary wall for the gate to slide into. We check both at the visit.

Do I need RWA permission for a pergola on a GK terrace?

Usually you should at least inform the RWA and the other floor owners, and a covered structure may also attract civic rules. An open MS pergola is generally less contentious than a closed shed. Check your building's sale terms and your RWA's position before ordering.
