Glass and metal fabrication in Faridabad is shaped by the city's unusual history. It began as a planned refugee township after Partition, grew into one of Haryana's biggest industrial towns along Mathura Road, filled in with HUDA sectors of plotted houses, and is now adding towers across the canal in Greater Faridabad. A gate for a kothi in Sector 15, a shutter for a shop in NIT 1, a shower cubicle for a new flat in Sector 81 and a mezzanine in a Sector 24 factory are four different jobs with four different sets of problems.

How Faridabad divides up for fabrication work

The quickest way to understand a Faridabad site is to ask how old it is and which side of the canal it sits on. The older town and NIT are dense and built over decades; the HUDA sectors are plotted and mostly owner-built; Neharpar is new high-rise and builder-floor stock; the industrial sectors are sheds and factory blocks.

NIT and Old Faridabad

NIT Faridabad, the New Industrial Township, is where the modern city started, and its numbered blocks are still among its busiest. Houses have grown floor by floor, lanes are narrow and the ground floor is often a shop. Old Faridabad is the original town by the railway station and the Old Faridabad metro station. Both need security metalwork and shop fittings more than anything else, and long panels have to be planned around tight access.

The HUDA sectors along Mathura Road

Sectors 14 to 17 are the city's established plotted sectors, with large houses and wide roads. Sector 21 and Badkhal mix kothis with builder floors, and Sainik Colony in Sector 49 is a plotted colony at the foot of the Aravallis. These are owner-run houses, so the jobs are the ones an owner decides on: a new gate, a terrace shed, a staircase railing, a bathroom redone with a glass partition.

Mathura Road, Surajkund and the industrial sectors

The Mathura Road corridor runs beside the Violet Line through Sectors 28 to 37 and carries the city's showrooms, malls and commercial blocks. Towards Delhi, Surajkund and Charmwood Village are greener, lower and villa-heavy. The industrial sectors, including Sector 24 and Sectors 58 and 59, need heavier steel: mezzanines, sheds and gates sized for trucks.

Ballabgarh and Greater Faridabad

Ballabgarh is a town older than Faridabad itself, now the southern end of the metro. Across the canal, Greater Faridabad, also called Neharpar, is the newest part of the city, where most work is the first fit-out of a recently handed-over flat.

Why steel needs more care here than glass

Faridabad's industrial air, summer heat and monsoon humidity are hard on mild steel. A gate or grill that is only given a coat of enamel without proper surface preparation and primer will show rust at the welds within a few seasons, which is why we discuss primer and paint against powder coating at the quote stage (see metal gate and grill rusting). On terraces, an uncoated polycarbonate sheet yellows under the sun, and a shed without a proper slope and gutter leaks in the first heavy rain (terrace shed leaking).

How a job runs in Faridabad
