Steel spiral staircases for terraces and lofts
A fabricated steel staircase sized to the measured floor-to-floor height, for access to a terrace, mezzanine, loft or roof. A spiral stair winds its treads around a central MS column and fits a compact circular footprint; a straight or dog-leg stair runs on two MS stringers and is easier to climb and to carry things up. Treads are chequered plate, perforated sheet, or a steel tray that takes stone or wood. A handrail with balusters is fitted to the open side. Finished in primer and enamel or powder coat, and anchored to a footing at the base and to the slab at the top.
A metal staircase is the quickest way to reach a terrace, loft or mezzanine without breaking into the house for a concrete stair. FabWise measures the floor-to-floor height and the space at both ends, helps you choose between a spiral and a straight stair, then fabricates and fixes it. Visits across Gurugram and Noida cost ₹99, credited to the bill.
Spiral or straight: which metal staircase to choose
A spiral staircase winds around a central steel column. Its great advantage is the footprint: a usable spiral needs a circle roughly 4.5 to 5.5 feet across, which fits in a corner of a terrace, a courtyard or a shop. The cost of that compactness is comfort. The treads are narrow at the centre, so carrying a water tank, a mattress or a heavy bag of potting soil up a spiral is awkward, and it is harder for elderly family members.
A straight stair runs on two steel stringers and needs a longer footprint, typically 10 to 13 feet of run for a normal floor height. It is much easier to climb and to carry things up. Where the run is too long for the space, a dog-leg stair turns back on itself at a landing halfway.
A rough rule: if the stair is for occasional access to a water tank or a roof, a spiral is fine. If it is a daily route to a terrace garden, a home office or a rented floor, choose straight or dog-leg.
Where metal stairs get used in Gurugram and Noida
The most common job is a stair from the top-floor terrace of a builder floor to the roof above it, where the owner wants access to the tank or a terrace garden without walking through the shared staircase. In older DLF Phase and Sushant Lok houses, a spiral in the back courtyard often gives a separate entry to a rented upper floor.
Shops and showrooms in Sector 18 Noida, MG Road and Old Gurgaon use metal stairs to reach a storage loft or a steel mezzanine floor. Duplex penthouses use a light spiral as a second internal stair.
An external stair that adds access to a new floor, or that changes the building's footprint, may need approval from the authority or the RWA, depending on where it goes. A stair inside your own plot to your own roof is usually simpler, but check before ordering.

Treads, railings and finishes
Treads decide how the stair feels underfoot. MS chequered plate is cheap, tough and grippy, and suits external and utility stairs. Perforated sheet lets rain and light through, so it does not hold water on an open terrace. A tray tread is a shallow steel box that takes granite, Kota stone or a wooden plank, which gives a finished, indoor look and is common on internal stairs.
The handrail is fitted along the open side. A plain MS pipe handrail with vertical balusters is standard. A stainless steel staircase railing or glass infill gives a lighter look on an internal stair. Baluster gaps should be narrow enough that a small child cannot slip through.
For the finish, primer and enamel paint is usual on internal stairs. An external stair that sits in the rain is far better off powder coated, or hot-dip galvanised before painting where the budget allows, because the underside of treads and the column base are hard to reach for repainting later.
What decides the cost of a metal staircase
Staircases are quoted per job after the visit, because the price depends on the stair rather than on any area.
Height comes first: a taller floor-to-floor rise needs more treads and a longer column or stringers. Type comes second: a straight stair usually uses more steel than a spiral for the same rise, and a dog-leg with a landing uses more again. Width matters, since a wider spiral or a wider straight stair is heavier.
The tread type is the next factor; tray treads with stone or wood cost more than chequered plate. The railing can be plain MS, stainless or glass. The finish ranges from enamel paint through powder coat to galvanising.
Site work counts as well. The stair needs a solid footing at the bottom, which may mean casting a small concrete pad, and a secure fixing to the slab edge at the top. If the stair must be carried through a house or lifted to a roof, the team allows for that too. Everything is itemised on the written quote.
How the staircase job runs, and upkeep afterwards
Book the ₹99 visit. The team measures the exact floor-to-floor height, the space at the bottom and the opening at the top, and checks what the base will stand on. That measurement sets every tread, so it is taken carefully. The written, all-inclusive quote usually follows within about two hours of the visit and is valid for three days.
Once the 50% advance is paid, the stair is fabricated in sections in the workshop, finished, and brought to site in pieces that fit through doors and up existing stairs. It is assembled and welded or bolted in place, the base anchored, the top fixed to the slab, and the railing fitted. The balance is paid on completion.
After that, check the bolts at the top and bottom once a year, and touch up paint on treads where feet wear through it. On an external stair, look under the treads before the monsoon for rust, and repaint enamel every two to three years.

Common questions
How much space does a spiral staircase need?
A usable spiral staircase usually needs a circle about 4.5 to 5.5 feet across, plus clear space at the top and bottom to step on and off. Smaller spirals exist but feel cramped. The exact size depends on the floor height and how the stair will be used, which the team works out at the site visit.
Is a spiral staircase safe for elderly people?
It is safe when well built, with a firm handrail, but it is harder to climb than a straight stair because the treads narrow towards the centre. For a stair that an elderly person will use every day, a straight or dog-leg steel stair is usually the better choice if the space allows it.
Terrace ke liye loha seedhi banwane mein kitna kharcha aata hai?
The cost depends on the floor height, whether it is spiral or straight, the width, the tread type, the railing and the finish. FabWise measures it at a ₹99 visit and sends a written, all-inclusive quote, usually within about two hours. There is no fixed rate because every stair is built to its own height.
Do I need permission for an external metal staircase?
It depends on where it goes. A stair inside your own plot to your own roof is usually straightforward. An external stair that gives new access to a separate floor, or that projects beyond the building line, may need approval from the authority or your RWA. Check before ordering; the team can build to whatever the approval specifies.
Can a metal staircase be fitted in a finished house?
Yes. The stair is fabricated in sections and assembled on site, so it can be carried through doors and up existing stairs. Fixing it usually involves drilling and anchoring rather than heavy breaking, and the work is normally done without disturbing the rest of the house for long.

- What is cnc laser-cut jaali?A CNC laser-cut jaali is a decorative perforated screen cut from metal sheet, usually mild steel, stainless steel or aluminium, by a computer-controlled laser that follows a digital pattern, used in gates, partitions, grills, facades and railings.
- What is mild steel (ms)?Mild steel (MS) is low-carbon steel, typically about 0.05–0.25% carbon, that is strong, easy to cut and weld and inexpensive, but rusts unless it is primed and painted, powder coated or galvanised.
- What is powder coating?Powder coating is a dry finish in which electrostatically charged polymer powder is sprayed onto pretreated metal and baked in an oven, forming a tough, even film that usually outlasts liquid paint on gates, railings, windows and grills.
