Glass door alignment · Gurgaon & Noida
Glass doors with an uneven gap in Gurgaon: why they drift and how they're realigned
When a pair of glass doors stops meeting evenly, one leaf has moved: its bottom patch has slipped on the glass, its floor spring has rotated in the floor box, or the top pivot has shifted with the ceiling. The fix is re-setting that leaf on its pivot line, which also cures the lock that no longer lines up.

A pair of frameless glass doors is set up with a narrow, parallel gap where the leaves meet, usually just a few millimetres, the same at the top as at the bottom. When that gap turns into a wedge, or one leaf stands proud of the other when both are shut, something in the door's support has moved. It's one of the most common things we see on double doors at shopfronts, office receptions and society lobbies in Gurugram and Noida, and it is almost always fixable without new glass.
Read the gap: what its shape tells you
Before anything else, close both doors and look at the meeting edges from a few steps back. The shape of the gap narrows down the cause quickly.
| Gap shape | What has moved | Usual fix |
|---|---|---|
| Wider at the top, tight at the bottom | One leaf has dropped at its closing edge | Re-set the bottom patch, re-level the leaf |
| Wider at the bottom, tight at the top | Top pivot or ceiling channel has shifted | Adjust or re-fix the top pivot |
| Parallel but too wide or too tight | A floor spring has rotated in its box | Re-centre and re-fix the floor spring |
| Leaves meet but one sits proud | Closing position (latch point) differs | Re-set the floor spring closing position |
| Leaves overlap or touch | Combination of drop and rotation | Full re-hang of both leaves |
What makes one leaf drift
A slipped bottom patch fitting
The door's weight hangs on the clamp at its bottom corner. If the clamp bolts relax or its gaskets compress, the glass creeps down inside the clamp at the far end, and the leaf tips. The gap opens at the top. This is the most frequent cause; our page on a broken or loose patch fitting shows what to look for.
A floor spring that has turned in its box
The floor spring sits in a steel cement box, held by adjusting screws. Years of doors being shoved past their stop can rotate it a few degrees, so the leaf closes short of or past the centre line. The leaves end up misaligned even though each looks level.
A top pivot that moved with the ceiling
Top pivots are fixed into a channel, a transom glass patch or the ceiling structure. False-ceiling work, a sagging transom or a loose channel fixing lets the pivot drift sideways, and the leaf leans.
The floor itself has changed
New tiles or a marble re-polish change the floor level by a few millimetres. A door hung for the old floor now sits differently, and one leaf can start to brush the surface.
Why it's worth fixing promptly
- The floor lock or centre lock stops lining up with its keep, so the doors can't be locked properly at night.
- Leaves that touch can chip each other's edges, and a chipped edge is how toughened glass fails.
- A leaf that has dropped strains its floor spring and wears it out faster.
Safe checks you can do
- Close both leaves and photograph the meeting gap from top to bottom.
- Photograph the top and bottom corner fittings of each leaf.
- Open each leaf to 45 degrees and let go. Note where each one comes to rest.
- Look along the floor for a scrape arc under either leaf.
How it's realigned, and how it's quoted
Realignment is repair work: no paid site visit, just photos and a short video of both doors closing sent on WhatsApp. That lets us tell a patch fitting job from a floor spring re-set, and say whether any hardware needs replacing. The quote follows from the photos.
On site, the leaf is supported, the slipped fitting re-clamped with fresh gaskets, the floor spring re-centred on the pivot line and both closing positions set so the leaves meet flush, followed by a check that the lock throws cleanly. If the spring itself is worn, that becomes a glass door floor machine repair. The floor spring explainer shows the adjusting screws involved.
Keeping the doors in line
- Fit door stoppers so neither leaf can be pushed past its limit.
- Re-check alignment after any flooring or false-ceiling work near the doors.
- Use the floor lock only when both leaves are fully closed, never to drag a leaf into place.
If the lock is the main complaint, read glass door lock not working; for a door that rubs the floor, see glass door dropped and dragging. The repair guide and glass repair catalogue cover the rest; shops in the city's main market can see Sector 18 Noida. Send a photo of the gap on WhatsApp and we'll tell you what has moved.
Common questions
Why is the gap between my glass doors uneven?
One leaf has moved. A gap wider at the top usually means a bottom patch fitting has slipped and the leaf has dropped; wider at the bottom points to the top pivot. A parallel gap that's grown usually means a floor spring has rotated in its box.
Can misaligned glass doors be fixed without replacing the glass?
In most cases, yes. Re-clamping the patch fitting, re-centring the floor spring and adjusting the top pivot brings the leaves back into line. Glass only needs replacing if the leaves have rubbed and chipped an edge, because a chipped toughened edge isn't safe.
My double glass doors won't lock at night. Is it the lock?
Often not. If the leaves no longer meet evenly, the bolt misses its keep in the floor or the other leaf. Fix the alignment first and the lock usually works again. If the leaves line up and it still won't lock, the cylinder or bolt may be worn.
Do I need to book a paid visit for door alignment?
No. Alignment is a repair, so it's quoted from photos and a short video on WhatsApp rather than a paid visit. Send a photo of the meeting gap from top to bottom, close-ups of each corner fitting and a clip of both doors closing, and we'll tell you what has moved and what it needs.
Dono glass door barabar band nahi hote, kya karein?
Don't force them together or lock them in that state. One door has usually dropped or turned slightly on its floor machine. Send a photo of the gap and a video of both doors closing on WhatsApp, and we'll tell you what needs re-setting.
