Glass cabin door hitting the frame in Gurgaon: what's wrong and the fix
A cabin door that hits its frame or the fixed glass has moved off its closing line: a glass-to-glass hinge or patch fitting has slipped, the floor spring has turned, or it's closing too fast with nothing to stop it. Glass striking glass or metal is how toughened panels shatter, so have it re-set promptly.

Why this one deserves attention
A glass cabin door is set to close into a precise gap: a few millimetres from the fixed glass beside it, or into a rebate or rubber seal in an aluminium frame. When it starts hitting anything on the way, every close is a small impact on the door's edge. Toughened glass is strong across its face but vulnerable at its edges, and repeated knocks there are a classic cause of a door that 'just exploded'. Our explainer on why toughened glass breaks covers the physics.
How cabin doors are hung, and what slips
Cabin doors in Gurugram offices are usually hung one of three ways, and each fails in its own way.
On glass-to-glass hinges
Many frameless cabins hang the door from the fixed panel beside it using glass-to-glass hinges. The hinge plates clamp both panes through rubber gaskets. As gaskets compress and screws relax, the door droops at its closing edge and swings into the frame or floor. Look for a door whose top corner sits lower than the fixed glass.
On a floor spring with patch fittings
Frameless doors on a floor spring hit things when the spring has turned in its box, or the bottom patch has slipped. The door closes past or short of its line. See glass doors with an uneven gap for how to read the gap.
In an aluminium profile frame
On aluminium profile cabins, the door often hangs on butt or pivot hinges with an overhead closer. Loose hinge screws in the profile, or a frame knocked out of square by a trolley or chair, let the door bind on the frame or strike its stop too hard.
Other reasons a door bangs
- Closing speed too fast, so the door overshoots the latch point and hits the stop. See glass door closing too fast.
- No door stopper, so the door can be flung open into a wall or desk and knocked out of line.
- Missing or perished rubber seal on the frame, so metal meets glass.
- A carpet or floor change raising the floor under the door.
| What happens | Probable cause | Typical fix |
|---|---|---|
| Closing corner hits the fixed glass | Glass-to-glass hinges drooped | New gaskets, re-clamp and re-level |
| Door closes past its line and strikes | Floor spring turned or patch slipped | Re-centre spring, re-set patch |
| Door binds on the aluminium frame | Hinge screws loose, frame out of square | Re-fix hinges, square the frame |
| Loud bang on every close | Speed too fast, no seal or stop | Adjust closer, fit seal or stopper |
What you can check
- Close the door slowly by hand and watch where it first touches.
- Look for chips or bright scuff marks on the glass edge at that spot.
- Compare the gap at the top and bottom of the closing edge.
- Check whether the door has a stopper, and whether the frame seal is intact.
How it's fixed and quoted
Cabin door realignment is repair work, quoted from photos and video on WhatsApp, with no paid site visit. Send a video of the door closing, close-ups of the hinges or corner fittings and the spot where it hits. We'll tell you whether it's an adjustment, new gaskets or hinges, or a floor spring job. If the door's edge is already chipped, the realignment and a replacement panel are quoted together.
If you're reorganising the floor anyway, the frameless glass office partition with door starts from ₹400 per sq ft; the office glass partition repair guide covers repairs across a whole floor.
Stopping it from happening again
- Fit a floor or wall stopper on every cabin door.
- Set the latching speed so the door settles rather than bangs.
- Ask for hinge and fitting checks whenever the office is re-planned.
The glass office partitions catalogue lists every cabin style, and the glass repair catalogue every fix. For offices on the city's main corporate stretch, see Golf Course Road. Send a video of the door closing on WhatsApp to get started.
Common questions
Why is my cabin glass door hitting the fixed glass?
The door has dropped or turned off its closing line. On glass-to-glass hinges, the rubber gaskets have compressed and the door droops at its closing edge. On a floor spring, the spring may have turned or the bottom patch slipped. Either way the door needs re-setting before the glass edge chips.
Can a glass door break from hitting the frame?
Yes. Toughened glass is strongest across its face and weakest at its edges. Repeated knocks on the edge can chip it, and a chipped edge is a common starting point for the whole panel shattering. Don't ignore a door that bangs on every close.
Do glass-to-glass hinges need adjusting?
Occasionally. Their rubber gaskets compress and their clamp screws can relax, especially on a heavy or busy door. Re-clamping with fresh gaskets and re-levelling the door usually solves it. Hinges that are cracked, corroded or simply too light for the door get replaced with ones rated for its weight.
Cabin ka darwaza frame se takrata hai, kya ye theek ho sakta hai?
Yes, usually by re-setting the hinges or floor machine so the door closes on its line again, and adding a stopper so it can't be flung open. Check the glass edge for chips first and keep the door shut if you find one. Send a video of the door closing on WhatsApp and we'll tell you what it needs.
