Torn or sagging mosquito mesh in Gurgaon: what failed and what to do
Mosquito mesh tears or sags when the fabric has gone brittle in the sun, the rubber beading holding it has shrunk, or the frame has been knocked out of shape. A small tear can be patched; brittle mesh or a bent frame needs re-meshing or a new mesh shutter.

Dengue and chikungunya seasons in Gurugram and Noida run straight after the monsoon, which is exactly when people open the windows and find the mesh has a hole in it. Mesh is the cheapest part of a window, but it takes more punishment than any other: full sun, monsoon rain, dust storms, cats, kids and the occasional pigeon.
The short answer
A small hole in otherwise soft mesh can be patched. Mesh that cracks when you press it, sags across the whole panel or has pulled out of the frame along an edge needs to be re-meshed. A bent frame, broken corners or a mesh shutter that no longer slides needs a new mesh shutter.
Why mosquito mesh fails
UV damage: the mesh has gone brittle
Fibreglass and polyester mesh both degrade in strong sunlight. On a west-facing window in a 45°C Gurgaon summer, cheap mesh can turn brittle within a couple of years. It looks fine until you touch it, then splits along the weave.
Shrunk or perished rubber beading
The mesh is held in a groove in the frame by a rubber or PVC bead (the spline). Heat hardens and shrinks it, the mesh loosens and one edge pulls out. This shows as a sag that gets worse each time the shutter is slid.
Physical damage
Pets climbing, a child pushing a hand through, a broom handle, or a pigeon trying to nest behind it. Physical tears are usually in one spot while the rest of the mesh is still soft.
A bent or twisted mesh frame
Thin aluminium mesh frames bend if they're forced in their track. Once out of square, they leave a gap at one edge, which is enough for mosquitoes, and the mesh is under uneven tension so it tears at a corner.
The wrong mesh type for the job
Plain fibreglass is fine on a window. On a balcony door used every day, or where there are pets, a stronger SS (stainless steel) or pet-resistant mesh lasts much longer.
Fault finder
| What you see | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Small hole, mesh otherwise soft | Physical damage | Patch, or re-mesh the panel |
| Mesh cracks when pressed | UV-brittle fabric | Re-mesh with UV-stable mesh |
| One edge pulled out of the frame | Shrunk beading | Re-mesh with new beading |
| Gap at one side when closed | Frame bent or out of square | New mesh shutter |
| Mesh shutter won't slide | Broken rollers or wrong track | Repair or new mesh shutter |
What you can do yourself
- Press gently on the mesh in a few places. Soft and springy is fine; crisp or crackling means it's UV-damaged and patching won't last.
- For a small hole in good mesh, a self-adhesive mesh patch on both sides works as a temporary fix.
- Close the mesh shutter and look for daylight along the edges, especially at the interlock with the glass shutter.
- Clean mesh with a soft brush or a damp cloth, not a pressure jet; it pushes the mesh out of its beading.
Re-mesh, or a new shutter?
If the frame is straight and slides well, re-meshing it is the sensible fix. If the frame is bent, the corners are broken, or you only have a fixed mesh where you'd like a sliding one, a new mosquito mesh shutter made to the opening is better value than patching an old frame again. Mesh can also be added as a third track on many aluminium sliding windows, or as an integrated insect screen on a uPVC window. How FabWise handles torn mesh
Send photos of the mesh, the frame and the window it sits on, plus rough sizes if you have them. We'll tell you whether it's a re-mesh or a new shutter. If we need to measure, the site visit is ₹99, adjusted against the bill if you go ahead. Mesh work is quoted after the visit; we don't publish a rate for it.
Make the next mesh last longer
Choose UV-stabilised mesh for sun-facing windows. Use SS or pet mesh on doors and where there are cats or dogs. Keep the mesh track clean so the shutter isn't forced, and don't leave the mesh shutter half-open in a dust storm, where it takes the full wind load.

Common questions
Can torn mosquito mesh be repaired?
A small hole in mesh that's still soft can be patched, and the panel can be re-meshed if the frame is in good shape. If the mesh has gone brittle in the sun, patching won't last because it will split elsewhere. A bent frame or broken corners usually means a new mesh shutter.
Which mosquito mesh lasts longest in Gurgaon's sun?
UV-stabilised fibreglass mesh lasts better than cheap polyester on sun-facing windows. Stainless steel mesh is the toughest and suits balcony doors and homes with pets, though it costs more and is less see-through. The frame and beading quality matter as much as the mesh fabric.
Why does my mosquito mesh keep coming out of the frame?
The rubber beading that holds the mesh in its groove has shrunk or hardened in the heat, so the mesh loses tension and pulls out. Pushing it back in rarely holds. Re-meshing with new beading fixes it. If the frame itself is bent, the mesh will keep pulling out until the frame is replaced.
Jaali phat gayi hai, puri jaali badalni padegi?
Not always. If the hole is small and the mesh is still soft, it can be patched or just the mesh re-fitted in the same frame. If the mesh has become brittle or the frame is bent, a new mesh shutter is the better option. Send a photo on WhatsApp and we'll tell you which.
Can I add a mosquito mesh to my existing sliding window?
Often yes. Many aluminium windows have, or can take, a third track for a sliding mesh shutter, and fixed or hinged mesh frames suit others. It depends on the frame depth and the space around the window. Send a photo of the window and track on WhatsApp to check.
