Shutters and Facade Work in Connaught Place
In Connaught Place, facade work splits in two: shutters and fronts inside the colonnade arches, where NDMC rules keep everything within the opening, and glazing on the office towers along the radial roads, where leaks and loose panels are the usual call. Both are quoted after a site visit.

Facades and shutters in Connaught Place are not a free design exercise. The white colonnade of the Inner and Outer Circle is treated as a shared frontage under the NDMC, so work in the blocks is about fitting inside an arch, not changing the building. Beyond the circles, the towers on Barakhamba Road and Kasturba Gandhi Marg have glazed facades of their own, and those age in ways a shop owner never sees.
Shutters inside the arch
A colonnade showroom usually needs a rolling shutter that sits within the existing opening and rolls into a box hidden behind the fascia, nothing hanging into the corridor. Many arches are wide, so a motorised shutter is common; a manual one that wide is heavy for staff to lift at closing time. Where the display should stay visible at night for people walking the circle, a perforated shutter keeps it on show. A shutter that will not lock or turns stiff in winter is covered in shutter lock jammed.
| Style | Why it suits Connaught Place | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Rolling shutter | Sized to the arch, often motorised, perforated for night display | Quoted after visit |
| Structural glazing | Repairs and resealing on office towers off the circles | Quoted after visit |
| Aluminium louvers | Screening AC units and services on rear and upper walls | Quoted after visit |
| ACP cladding | Buildings on the radial roads, where the NDMC and landlord allow it | Quoted after visit |
What the NDMC tends to care about
Signs that run wider than the shop, boards that project into the corridor and finishes that clash with the colonnade's white plaster draw notices. Before planning ACP or a new fascia inside the circles, check with the NDMC and the landlord; in many cases the right answer is to restore the existing frontage rather than clad it.
Office towers: glazing that leaks
Towers on the radial roads use structural glazing, where glass is bonded to the frame with structural silicone. After years of Delhi sun the silicone and the weather seals age, and water finds its way in during the monsoon, usually at corners and around opening vents. Structural glazing leak explains how leaks are traced; often the fix is resealing joints and replacing EPDM gaskets rather than replacing glass. Work at height needs the building's approval and access.
Services on the back of the building
Rear walls and light wells in CP blocks carry AC units, pipes and cables. Aluminium louvers in front of them tidy the view from offices and the service lane while letting the units breathe.
Before booking
- Confirm with your landlord, and for frontage work the NDMC, what can change.
- Plan colonnade work for early morning or after closing, when the corridor is quiet.
- For tower glazing, ask building management about access, permits and working hours.
The ₹99 visit, usually within 24 to 48 hours of booking, covers measuring the opening or inspecting the facade. A written, all-inclusive quote follows within about 2 hours, valid for 3 days. Work starts after a 50% advance, and the balance is paid on completion. For cladding costs on the radial roads, see the ACP cladding price guide and the structural glazing vs ACP guide.
See the Connaught Place page and Lajpat Nagar, whose market fronts take a different approach. Facades and shutters in Delhi and the facades catalogue list every option.
Common questions
Can a rolling shutter be fitted inside a CP colonnade arch?
Yes. The shutter is sized to the opening and rolls into a box concealed behind the fascia, so nothing projects into the corridor. Wide arches usually suit a motorised shutter. Confirm the design with your landlord and the NDMC before fabrication.
Our office tower's glass facade leaks in the monsoon. Can it be fixed?
Usually. Leaks in structural glazing mostly come from aged silicone joints and gaskets, not the glass. Tracing the leak, then resealing joints and replacing gaskets, often stops it. Work at height needs building approval and access, which we plan with the building management.
CP mein ACP lagane ki permission milti hai?
Inside the colonnade, cladding a frontage is generally discouraged, and the NDMC enforces rules on signage and frontage there. On buildings along the radial roads there is more room, but check with the NDMC and your landlord first. We design only what is allowed for your building.
How much does a motorised shutter cost in Connaught Place?
There is no fixed rate. The price depends on the opening width and height, the slat type, solid or perforated, the motor and any work on the shutter box. After the ₹99 site visit you get a written, all-inclusive quote, valid for 3 days.
