ACP Facades, Signage and Shutters for Vikas Marg Buildings

Walk along Vikas Marg under the Blue Line viaduct and most buildings wear a patchwork of signboards: one institute per floor, each with its own board, angle and lighting. Students on the elevated metro platforms and in passing buses see the upper floors as much as the ground floor. Designing a facade for many tenants

A multi-tenant re-cladding is a building decision, usually led by the owner or the building association. What it should settle up front:

• A signage grid. Equal or proportional slots for each floor's tenants, with backing and power built into the frame.
• Windows kept clear. Classrooms need daylight and fresh air, so the cladding frames windows rather than covering them.
• Panel core. On floors full of students, a fire-retardant ACP core is the responsible choice.
• Access for change. Tenants change; sign panels should be replaceable without cutting the cladding.

Working on a facade above a busy road

Vikas Marg carries heavy traffic all day, and the footpath below is crowded. Facade work needs the pavement protected and is usually best started early. The survey checks:

1. How the frame anchors to slab edges and columns, not to infill brick.
2. Where scaffolding or a lift can stand without blocking the road.
3. Existing signboards and wiring that must be removed or rerouted.
4. Clearances near the metro structure, where they apply.

Louvres for the AC units

Classroom floors run air conditioning from morning to late evening, and the outdoor units usually hang on the front wall. Left exposed, they spoil a new facade and drip onto the footpath. Aluminium louvre screens in front of them keep airflow open, hide the units and leave a hinged panel for servicing. Plan drain pipes into the frame so condensate runs down inside the cladding line.

Shutters in the inner lanes

Behind Vikas Marg, Shakarpur and Laxmi Nagar's lanes are narrow, with shops opening straight onto them. Shutters there are usually manual and compact, carried in by hand. A shutter lock that jams after a dusty summer is covered in shutter lock jammed.
