Glass Cabin vs Drywall Partition: Which Is Right for Your Office? by FabWise in Gurugram & Noida

Choose a glass cabin when daylight, an open feel and fast, clean installation matter most; choose a drywall partition when the room needs solid walls for sound, storage or screens. For most offices in Gurgaon, Noida and Delhi, the practical answer is a mix: glass on the side facing the floor plate, drywall on shared walls or behind the desk.

This guide compares the two for the people who sign off a fit-out: founders, admin heads and facility managers. If you have already decided on glass and want the cabin options, our article on glass office cabins in Gurugram covers those.

What is the real difference between a glass cabin and a drywall partition?

A drywall partition is a light metal stud frame with gypsum board on both faces, taped, finished and painted. It is built on site, in stages. A glass cabin is a set of toughened glass panels made to measure off site, then fixed with clamps, channels or a frame, with a glass door on a floor spring. One is construction; the other is closer to installing furniture.

Which one costs more?

It depends on finish level, and comparing a bare drywall quote with an all-inclusive glass quote misleads. A drywall wall needs framing, board, insulation, jointing, putty, primer, paint and often a door frame and door; a glass cabin quote usually includes glass, fittings, door hardware and installation in one figure. On our rate card a frameless glass cabin with door starts at ₹400 per sq ft, a fixed frameless glass wall at ₹350 per sq ft, and an aluminium-framed cabin with door at ₹1,100 per sq ft. A 12 ft by 9 ft glass front, about 108 sq ft, would start around ₹43,200.

Ask any drywall contractor for the finished, painted, door-included figure before you compare. Our office glass partition cost guide breaks the glass side down further.

When does glass clearly win?

  • Deep floor plates in IT parks and towers such as DLF Cyber City or Sector 62 in Noida, where the core of the floor gets no daylight unless it passes through the cabins.
  • Occupied offices. Glass panels arrive finished, so there is far less dust and noise on the day; useful when the rest of the team keeps working.
  • Short leases. In a coworking or managed office, less wet work means less to undo at exit.
  • Teams that need visibility, such as managers overseeing a sales floor or a clinic reception.

When does drywall make more sense?

  • HR, legal or finance rooms where conversations must stay private and people should not be seen.
  • Walls that must carry things: a TV, a whiteboard rail, shelving or a server rack.
  • Walls shared with a noisy neighbour or a pantry.
  • Fire-rated separations that the building requires. Ordinary toughened glass partitions are not a fire-rated wall; check the building's rules.

What does a hybrid cabin look like?

The common pattern is a glass front with a glass door on the corridor side, and drywall on the back and shared walls. Light reaches the floor, the person inside keeps a solid wall behind them for storage and screens, and sound between neighbouring cabins is better controlled. Add a frosted band at eye level on the glass, or plan a full film later; our frosted film vs frosted glass guide compares the two.

How do sound and privacy compare in practice?

Drywall with mineral wool inside, taken to the slab above, blocks more sound than a single glass panel. But most sound complaints in glass cabins come from gaps: around the door, under it, and above the false ceiling. Fixing those narrows the difference a lot. Our guide to office glass partition sound privacy explains where sound gets out and what helps.

How long does each take from order to use?

Drywall can start as soon as material reaches site, then moves through framing, boarding, jointing and painting over several days, with curing time between coats. Glass has a waiting period first, because toughened glass is made to measure and production generally takes 7 to 10 days, but installation itself is usually quick and clean. If the office cannot shut, glass is often the less disruptive route even though the calendar time is similar.

What about uneven floors and old buildings?

Frameless glass needs a reasonably level floor and true walls. In older commercial buildings, for example along MG Road or in Udyog Vihar, floors and soffits are not always level. An aluminium-framed cabin takes up small differences better, which is one reason it suits refurbishments. We check this with a level at the visit.

How do you get a glass option priced?

Book a site visit for ₹99, usually within 24 to 48 hours. We measure, discuss layout and privacy, and send a written, all-inclusive quote, usually within about 2 hours, valid 3 days. Office styles use 12mm Saint-Gobain toughened glass with SS304 fittings and carry a 2 year functional warranty on the floor machine. We work across Gurgaon, Noida and Delhi; see also our page for offices and the full glass office partition catalogue.

Common questions

Is a glass partition cheaper than a drywall partition?

Not always, and the comparison is often unfair. A drywall price per sq ft usually excludes finishing, paint, the door frame and the door, while a glass quote typically includes glass, fittings, door hardware and installation. Compare finished, door-included figures. Our frameless glass cabin with door starts at ₹400 per sq ft.

Which is better for sound, glass or drywall?

Insulated drywall taken up to the slab usually blocks more sound than a single glass panel. In glass cabins, most noise escapes through gaps at the door and above the false ceiling, so sealing those makes a large difference. For rooms where conversations must stay private, a hybrid with drywall on shared walls is common.

Can a glass cabin be moved when we change offices?

Sometimes. Toughened glass cannot be cut, so panels can only be reused where the new layout suits their exact sizes. Fittings and floor springs can often be reused. Drywall, by contrast, is demolished. If you expect to move, plan standard panel widths so reuse is more likely.

Office mein glass cabin banwana hai, kitna time lagta hai?

After measurement and the 50% advance, toughened glass production generally takes 7 to 10 days. Installation itself is usually quick, because the panels arrive cut and finished. The site visit is usually within 24 to 48 hours of booking and the written quote within about 2 hours of the visit.

Does a glass cabin need permission from the building?

Many commercial buildings and IT parks in Gurugram and Noida require fit-out approval from building management, with drawings and work timings. Check with your facility team before the visit. The requirements vary by building, so we work to whatever the building management sets.

Can I put a whiteboard or TV on a glass partition?

Not on the glass itself, because toughened glass cannot be drilled after toughening. Common solutions are a freestanding TV stand, a drywall section within the cabin, or a back-painted glass panel used as a writable board on a solid wall.
