Glass cabins and office partitions in Gurgaon

A glass cabin in Gurgaon is rarely just a glass cabin. In a Cyber City tower it is a fit-out item that has to clear the building's facility team; in an Udyog Vihar unit it is a room built inside a converted factory with uneven floors; on Sohna Road it may be the shopfront and the manager's room in one order. The glass and the rates are the same everywhere. What changes is how the job is planned, and that is what this page is about.

How the building changes the job

Grade-A towers: Cyber City, Cyber Hub, Golf Course Road

Offices in DLF Cyber City and the buildings around Cyber Hub sit in managed towers with written fit-out rules. Expect to submit a drawing or method statement, get a work permit, book the service lift and, for anything noisy or bulky, work after office hours or on a weekend. Glass panels for a full-height cabin can be over 9 ft tall, so the service lift's internal height decides the largest single panel that can go up, and that is something we check at measurement rather than discover on delivery day. False ceilings are common, and the top channel usually fixes to the slab or a frame above the ceiling, not to the ceiling board.

Converted industrial units: Udyog Vihar

Udyog Vihar has hundreds of old factory plots now used as offices, studios and BPO floors. The floors are often re-screeded and not level, columns sit in awkward places, and walls may be brick with heavy plaster. This is where the aluminium-framed cabin earns its higher rate: the frame takes up a few millimetres of error that frameless glass would show. Access is usually easier than in a tower, and daytime work is often allowed.

Commercial complexes: Sohna Road, Golf Course Extension, MG Road

The office and retail complexes along Sohna Road and MG Road mix small offices upstairs with shops at ground level. A common order here is a glass shopfront downstairs and one or two cabins upstairs. The complex's maintenance office usually wants notice and a list of workers; the shopfront often also needs the landlord's sign-off because it changes the frontage.

Privacy, sound and safety: what to decide before measurement

Clear glass is what makes a cabin feel open, but most offices in Gurugram want some privacy in it. The usual answer is a frosted or printed film band across the glass at seated eye level, which leaves light coming through above and below. Films are applied after the glass is fitted, so the decision can wait until the end, but it helps to mention it at the visit so the quote covers it.

• Manifestation strips: a band or logo at eye height so nobody walks into a clear glass wall. Many managed buildings expect them on full-height glass.
• Sound: a single sheet of 12mm glass cuts conversation noise noticeably, but the gaps matter more than the glass. Where the partition meets the ceiling, floor and walls is where sound leaks, so seals and a closed top are worth discussing for meeting rooms.
• Locks: a glass door can take a floor lock or a lock built into the patch fitting. Decide whether the cabin needs to lock before the glass is made, since holes cannot be drilled afterwards.
• Blinds or films later: if you might add blinds, leave a fixing zone in the ceiling plan.

• The building's fit-out rule book and any drawing it wants submitted
• Permitted work hours and the after-hours booking process
• Service lift internal height and booking slots
• Whether the ceiling grid can be opened for top fixing
• Debris removal rules and floor protection requirements
