Toughened Glass Work in Gurgaon and Noida: Price and Thickness

Fitted toughened glass work in Gurgaon and Noida starts at ₹350 per sq ft of glass at FabWise: ₹350 per sq ft for a fixed 12mm office glass wall, ₹500 per sq ft for a 12mm shopfront with a door and ₹500 per sq ft for a 10mm frameless shower partition with a door. Those rates include fittings and installation for the agreed scope; a loose pane from a dealer is priced on the glass alone.

People in Gurugram and Noida look for toughened glass in two quite different ways. Some want a pane: a sheet cut to size for a window, a table top or a replacement, bought over the counter from a glass dealer. Others want a job: a shower partition, an office cabin or a shopfront that somebody measures, has made and then fixes in place. The two are priced on different bases, and most of the confusion about "the rate of toughened glass" comes from setting one against the other. This guide covers the material first, then what it costs.

What is toughened glass, and is tempered glass the same?

Tempered glass and toughened glass are one product under two names: tempered is the American word, toughened the one Indian processors print on invoices. It begins as ordinary float (annealed) glass. The sheet is cut to its final size, its edges are ground and its holes are drilled, and then it is heated past 600°C and chilled suddenly with blasts of air on both faces. The skin hardens first; as the core cools it contracts and pulls on that skin, leaving both surfaces in permanent compression. That stored stress is why a toughened pane is commonly rated about four to five times stronger than plain glass of equal thickness, and why it breaks into small blunt granules rather than long shards.

Is toughened glass unbreakable?

No. It is far harder to break than plain glass, but two weak points matter in daily use. The first is the edge: a sharp knock on an exposed corner, from a trolley, a mop bucket or a door swinging into a fixed panel, can shatter a pane that would shrug off a blow to its centre. The second is stress the pane is already under: a clamp tightened too hard, or a door rubbing its neighbour, can make it fail days later with nobody near it. Now and then a microscopic nickel sulphide inclusion inside the glass is to blame. When toughened glass does fail, the whole pane drops into granules, and that is the safety point of toughening: small blunt pieces instead of blades.

Why toughened glass breaks goes into the causes, and toughened glass shattered covers what to do on the day it happens.

Why must toughened glass be cut before it is toughened?

Because once the stress is locked in, any cut, drilled hole or reground edge releases it and the entire sheet bursts. Every dimension, every hole for a hinge or patch fitting, every notch for a lock and every cut-out for a floor spring is therefore made on the annealed sheet, and only then does the glass go into the furnace. On site a toughened panel can be fixed, never altered. For a buyer that has three consequences:

  • The measurement has to be final. A bathroom is measured once the tiles are on and a shop opening once the floor is laid, because a few millimetres decide whether the pane fits.
  • A wrong size means a new pane. There is no trimming a toughened panel that came out too big; it goes back as a fresh order.
  • Each pane is made to order. That is the reason for the production time: at FabWise, toughened glass generally takes 7 to 10 days to produce.

Which thickness of toughened glass goes where?

Toughening sets the strength; thickness sets the stiffness and the weight. The right thickness depends on how big the pane is, how many of its edges are held and how hard it is used. This is typical practice in Indian homes, shops and offices, not a rule for every pane:

Typical practice only. Railings and overhead glass call for laminated glass, sized by the supplier or an engineer.
ThicknessTypical useReason
5mmWindow panes and sliding window shutters in aluminium or uPVC framesThe frame holds all four edges, so the glass can stay light
6mmBigger window panes, wardrobe and cabinet shuttersSlightly stiffer for larger framed panes that are handled every day
8mmFramed or slim-profile shower screens, shelves, small fixed panelsEnough where a frame or a short span does part of the work
10mmFrameless shower partitions and their hinged doors, table topsStands on a handful of clamps and hinges and gets wet daily
12mmOffice cabins, full-height glass walls, shopfronts, heavy doors on a floor springTall spans, heavy leaves and knocks at street level

FabWise's published styles settle the thickness for you: 10mm Saint-Gobain toughened glass in every bathroom style and 12mm in every office and shopfront style. A single toughened sheet is the wrong answer where glass must stay put after it breaks, such as a balcony railing, a canopy or a skylight; that is a job for laminated glass, covered on the glass railing price guide. Weights per sq ft are in the glass thickness guide, and the bathroom choice is argued in shower glass thickness: 8mm, 10mm or 12mm.

What do IS 2553 and the ISI mark mean for toughened glass?

Toughened and laminated glass for buildings in India falls under IS 2553 (Part 1):2018, the Bureau of Indian Standards specification for safety glass in architectural, building and general uses. The Safety Glass (Quality Control) Order, 2020, notified by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in March 2020 and in force from 16 September 2020, says that such glass must conform to that standard and bear the BIS Standard Mark under a licence from the Bureau. BIS is the certifying and enforcing authority, and the order does not apply to glass made for export.

In practice, look in one corner of each pane for the ISI mark, the standard number and a licence number, and check it before the corner vanishes into a channel or behind a clamp. That holds for a dealer's loose sheet and a contractor's fitted panel alike, ours included. The ISI-marked toughened glass guide shows how to read the mark and look up a licence.

What decides the price of toughened glass per sq ft?

Whether you are buying a bare pane or a finished job, the same handful of things move the number:

What changesWhy the figure moves
ThicknessMore glass in every sq ft, a heavier sheet to carry and fittings rated for the weight.
Pane sizeVery tall or wide panes come from bigger stock sheets and need more careful handling and transport.
Holes, notches, cut-outsEach is machined before toughening. A door leaf with hinge holes, a lock notch and a handle costs more to process than a plain rectangle.
Edge finishA polished edge left on show takes more work than a ground edge hidden inside a frame.
TreatmentFrosting, film, tint or fluted glass are priced on top of clear.
Laminating or heat-soakingTwo bonded plies, or an extra heat-soak cycle for overhead glass, add a process.
Fittings and fixingPart of a fitted price only: clamps, hinges, a floor spring, sealing, delivery and installation.
AccessUpper floors, narrow stairwells and towers with fixed working hours take more planning.

What does fitted toughened glass cost at FabWise?

FabWise publishes no rate for loose sheets. What it does publish is a starting rate per sq ft of glass for each fitted toughened glass style, covering the glass, SS304 fittings, fabrication and installation for the agreed scope:

Starting rates from the FabWise rate card, Saint-Gobain toughened glass throughout.
Fitted toughened glassThicknessPer sq ft
Office glass wall, no door12mm₹350
Glass cabin with a door on a floor spring12mm₹400
Shop or showroom front with door12mm₹500
Cabin in a black aluminium frame12mm₹1,100
Walk-in shower panel10mm₹370
Hinged frameless shower glass10mm₹500
Sliding frameless shower glass10mm₹550

Framed costs more here, not less. The aluminium frame goes around the same 12mm glass as a design addition, so the framed cabin is ₹1,100 per sq ft against ₹400 per sq ft for the frameless one.

Three sizes worked through, using glass area (width × height of each glazed face):

  • A 14 × 10 ft shop opening is 140 sq ft. As a shopfront with a door, ₹70,000.
  • A 15 ft run of office glass, 9 ft high, no door is 135 sq ft, or ₹47,250.
  • A 6 ft wide bathroom, glass 7 ft high, hinged door is 42 sq ft of frameless shower glass, or ₹21,000.

What does 12mm toughened glass cost in India?

There is no single national price. Dealers quote loose 12mm panes per sq ft, and their figure shifts with the brand, the size of the pane, how many holes and notches it has, the edge work and whether it carries the ISI mark. A working 12mm door or wall is a different sum, because hardware and fixing come on top of the glass. Fitted 12mm work at FabWise starts at ₹350 per sq ft for a fixed wall and ₹400 per sq ft for a cabin with a door. Set those against a dealer's glass price plus the fitter, the hardware and transport, not against the glass price on its own.

A dealer is often the sensible route for a simple pane in an existing frame. For glass that swings, slides or stands on its own, the sheet is only part of the job. How do you judge a toughened glass contractor?

Lists of the "best" glass works in Gurgaon are easy to find. A firmer test is what a contractor will put in writing. Ask any of them, FabWise included:

  1. Which brand, what thickness, and is it toughened? All three belong on the quote.
  2. Will each pane carry the BIS Standard Mark and a licence number under IS 2553 (Part 1)?
  3. What grade are the fittings? SS304 resists rust in a humid bathroom; cheaper steel can stain.
  4. Is the rate per sq ft of glass, and does it include fittings, delivery and installation?
  5. Who measures, and when? Glass measured before tiles or flooring are finished may not fit.
  6. What does the warranty cover, and for how long?

Toughened glass across Gurugram and Noida

The buildings shape the job more than the city does. Office floors in DLF Cyber City and Udyog Vihar take 12mm cabins and glass walls, and tower rules on service lifts and working hours set the installation day. Market frontages on MG Road and in Old Gurgaon need a shopfront that sits inside an existing shutter line. In Noida, the shops around Sector 18 and the offices of Sector 62 raise the same shopfront and cabin questions, while flats in the towers along the Noida Expressway need large panes that fit the service lift. The rate card is the same in both cities; the visit records each building's rules.

Common questions

What is the toughened glass price per sq ft in Gurgaon?

For fitted work at FabWise it starts at ₹350 per sq ft of glass. A fixed 12mm office glass wall is ₹350 per sq ft, a 12mm shopfront with a door ₹500 per sq ft and a 10mm frameless shower partition with a door ₹500 per sq ft. These include fittings and installation for the agreed scope, and the same rate card applies in Noida.

What is the cost of 12mm toughened glass in India?

Loose 12mm panes are priced by dealers per sq ft, and the figure varies with brand, pane size, holes and edge work, and the ISI mark, so there is no one national price. Fitted 12mm work at FabWise starts at ₹350 per sq ft for a fixed wall and ₹400 per sq ft for a cabin with a door on a floor spring, with fittings and installation inside the rate.

How thick should toughened glass be?

It depends on the pane's size and how it is held. Framed windows commonly use 5mm or 6mm, framed shower screens and shelves 8mm, frameless shower partitions 10mm, and office cabins, shopfronts and heavy doors 12mm. FabWise uses 10mm in bathrooms and 12mm in offices and shopfronts. Railings and overhead glass need laminated glass rather than one toughened sheet.

Is toughened glass unbreakable?

No. It is commonly rated about four to five times stronger than plain glass of the same thickness, but a hard knock on an edge, a fitting clamped too tight or, rarely, an impurity inside the glass can still break it. When it fails it crumbles into small blunt pieces instead of sharp shards, which is what makes it a safety glass.

Can toughened glass be cut to size after it is made?

No. Cutting, drilling or grinding it after toughening releases the stress inside and the pane shatters. The size, holes and cut-outs are all made beforehand, so the measurement must be final. A pane that comes out too big is remade, which is why bathrooms are measured after tiling and shops after the floor is laid.

Are you a toughened glass dealer in Noida?

FabWise's published rates are for fitted work rather than loose sheets: the team measures, has the glass made and installs it, in Noida as in Gurugram. For a single panel cut to your sizes, such as a shelf or table top, ask about custom glass made to measure. To replace a cracked pane, send a photo on WhatsApp first.

Who does the best toughened glass work in Gurgaon?

We will not rank ourselves or anyone else. Judge any contractor on what goes in writing: the glass brand, the thickness, the BIS Standard Mark under IS 2553 (Part 1), the grade of the fittings, whether the per sq ft rate includes installation, who measures, and what the warranty covers. A ₹99 visit gets you a FabWise quote to compare on those points.

Does toughened glass need the ISI mark?

For building use, yes. Under the Safety Glass (Quality Control) Order, 2020, in force since 16 September 2020, safety glass covered by IS 2553 (Part 1):2018 must conform to that standard and bear the BIS Standard Mark under a BIS licence. Look for the mark and a licence number in one corner of each pane.

Toughened glass banne mein kitne din lagte hain?

Toughened glass generally needs 7 to 10 days of production after the 50% advance, because every pane is cut, drilled and toughened to the measured size. Installation then follows the schedule given for your project.
