Where a fixed glass wall works, and where it does not

A fixed wall is the right call when the aim is to separate, not to enclose. Common examples: a glass backdrop behind a reception desk, a screen between sales and accounts so each team hears less of the other, a corridor wall that keeps a walkway visually open, or a panel that hides a store corner without darkening it.

It is the wrong call when people need to pass through the glass. If the space behind the wall is a room with a door, the frameless glass cabin with door is the product, at ₹400 per sq ft. How the panels stand up without a frame

Each panel is 12mm Saint-Gobain toughened glass, held on SS304 anti-rust fittings. With no frame to lean on, the glass is usually fixed in a low floor channel or with clamps at the base, and restrained at the top by a ceiling channel or clamps fixed back to the slab. Where the top edge meets a false ceiling, the fixing generally needs something solid above the tiles, which is one of the things the visit looks for.

Adjacent panels are commonly butt-jointed with a thin line of clear silicone, so a long run reads as a single sheet. Corners can be joined glass to glass or with a small corner fitting, depending on the angle and the look you want.

Because the glass is toughened after cutting, every hole, notch and edge is decided before production. Floor boxes, switches or AC grilles on the line have to be marked at the visit, not discovered on installation day. Fixed walls are priced per sq ft of glass at a starting rate of ₹350 per sq ft. Three sizes that come up often:

What pushes a quote above these figures: frosted bands or fluted glass for privacy, very tall panels that need extra fixing, a false ceiling that needs support added above it, cut-outs for sockets or floor boxes, and access, such as a floor where panels have to be carried up the stairs because they will not fit the lift.

Fitting a wall in an office that is still working

Most fixed walls go into offices that are already occupied, so planning matters more than speed. At the ₹99 site visit, usually within 24–48 hours of booking, the team marks the line, measures it at several heights (old slabs are rarely level), checks what lies under the floor and above the ceiling, and notes lift sizes and loading access.

The quotation follows within about 2 hours and is valid for 3 days. Once you approve it and pay the 50% advance, the glass goes into production, which generally takes 7–10 days for toughened glass. The installation date is then confirmed with you; the balance is due on completion.

Privacy, safety marking and everyday care

Clear glass is the default, but a fixed wall rarely stays fully clear. A frosted band between roughly 3 ft and 6 ft hides screens and desks while keeping light at the top and bottom. Even on a fully clear wall, a strip of marking at eye level is worth having, because a well-cleaned frameless panel is easy to walk into.

Cleaning is simple: a soft cloth, a mild glass cleaner and nothing abrasive. Clean the silicone joints gently so they are not pulled from the glass.
