Defence Colony · Aluminium & uPVC Windows and Doors
Quieter Windows and Doors for Defence Colony Homes
For Defence Colony homes near the flyover and the Ring Road, the reason to change windows is usually noise and dust. uPVC with double-glazed units cuts both best; aluminium sliders suit wide openings behind existing grills. Windows and doors are quoted after a site visit, once every opening is measured.

Windows and doors in Defence Colony are mostly replacement work, and the brief is set by the colony's position. The Defence Colony flyover and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg carry traffic from early morning, the Ring Road is close, and homes on the outer blocks hear all of it. Owners of both original houses and rebuilt floors ask the same thing: can new windows make the bedroom quiet?
What actually stops road noise
Noise gets in through gaps first and glass second. A sliding window, however good, has brush seals where the sashes overlap, so it never seals as tightly as a casement pressing onto a gasket. That is why a uPVC window in casement form, with EPDM gaskets and a double-glazed unit, is the usual answer for a bedroom facing the flyover. The second pane and the air gap reduce sound and heat; laminated glass in one pane helps further with low traffic rumble. The soundproof windows guide explains what to expect and what is marketing.

Grills decide which way a window can open
Original Defence Colony houses carry grills fixed on the outside of most openings. An outward-opening casement cannot swing past a grill, so the choice is an inward-opening casement, a tilt-and-turn, or a slider that stays in its own frame. If the grill is being replaced too, it can be set further out to give the sash room. We look at the grill and the window as one job at the visit, because deciding one first often rules out the best option for the other.
Old openings, new frames
Openings in the older houses are seldom true rectangles, and the steel frames coming out often leave a broken sill. New frames are sized to the tightest measurement, fixed into sound masonry and sealed outside so rain does not track in behind them; window leaking rain water usually starts at that joint, not the glass.
Balcony doors on the rebuilt floors
On the newer floors, the balcony or rear verandah usually has a builder-fitted door that rattles in the wind and lets dust settle on the floor inside. A heavier aluminium sliding door with an interlock and a proper track fixes both. Add a mosquito mesh shutter on its own track if the door faces the colony's parks.
Before booking
- Note which rooms face the flyover or the main road, so those openings get the best sealing and the rest a lighter, cheaper spec.
- If you are in a rebuilt floor, check whether the building has an agreed frame colour for the front; the RWA or the other owners may prefer it kept uniform.
- Decide whether old grills stay. It changes the window type.
The ₹99 site visit, usually within 24 to 48 hours, covers measuring every opening. The written quote follows in about 2 hours and is valid for 3 days. Fabrication starts on a 50% advance, and the balance is paid after installation. The uPVC window price guide explains what drives the cost, and window gap, dust and noise covers fixes short of replacement.

Common questions
Will new windows really cut flyover noise in Defence Colony?
Well-sealed casement windows with double glazing make a clear difference, mainly by closing the gaps old frames leave. Sliding windows help less because their seals are brushes. No window makes a room silent, but a bedroom facing the flyover becomes noticeably quieter. We recommend by room at the visit.
Can uPVC windows go behind the existing grill?
Yes, as a slider or an inward-opening casement. An outward-opening sash would hit the grill. If you are replacing the grill too, it can be set out to make room. We check the depth between the grill and the wall during the visit.
Double glazing ka kharcha zyada hai, kya har window mein chahiye?
Not usually. Double-glazed units cost more, so they are best spent on bedrooms and study rooms facing the road. Rooms at the back or facing the lawn often do well with single glazing and good seals. The quote lists each window so you can choose.
How long does window replacement take in an old Defence Colony house?
After the 50% advance, frames are fabricated to measured sizes and the glazing is ordered. On the day, each old frame is cut out and the new one fixed and sealed, room by room, so the house is never left open overnight. The written quote states the schedule.
