Channel or spigot: how the glass is held
Frameless glass is held at the bottom in one of two ways. A continuous glass railing U-channel set into or onto the slab gives the cleanest line, with no posts at all. Individual glass railing spigots clamp each panel at two points and suit balconies where the slab edge cannot take a channel. On a villa terrace exposed across the open course, a top rail ties the panels together and is strongly advised.
Which glass?
Railing glass should be toughened at minimum; on upper floors of the condo towers, laminated glass made from toughened layers is the safer choice, because the interlayer holds the panel together if it breaks. Township approval comes first
- Ask the maintenance office whether balcony railings are part of the protected elevation and whether a design is prescribed.
- Submit the proposed design in writing; we can supply a drawing for the application.
- Confirm working hours and gate passes for the installation team.
- In condo towers, book the service lift and give us its car size so panels are sized to fit.
Older installations here sometimes show a loose glass railing panel, usually a channel whose packing has shrunk, or a cracked balcony glass from an impact. Both should be taped off and reported straight away.

That is the township's decision. Balcony railings are visible from outside, so the maintenance office normally needs a written application and may prescribe a design. Bring its guidelines to the site visit; we can provide a drawing for your application.
