Louvres rattling in Gurgaon: why facade blades clatter and how to stop it

Aluminium louvres rattle when blades move in their clips or brackets: clips have loosened or broken, fixings have worked loose, or blades span too far without support and flutter in wind. Re-clipping and adding mid supports usually stops it; damaged blades are replaced individually.

Aluminium louvre screen on a building facade with horizontal blades

Aluminium louvres screen AC units on balconies, ventilate service shafts and stairwells, and dress up facades across Gurugram and Noida. In a pre-monsoon dust storm, a loose set can clatter loudly enough to wake a whole floor, and blades that keep vibrating eventually crack at their fixings or fall. That makes a rattling louvre both a nuisance and a safety question.

The short answer

Find which blades move. If individual blades shake in their clips, the clips are loose, broken or the wrong size. If the whole panel moves, the frame's fixings into the wall have loosened. If blades flutter mid-span, they're too long for their section and need an intermediate support.

Why louvres rattle

Loose or broken blade clips

Many louvres clip into brackets on vertical mullions. Plastic clips go brittle in sun and crack; metal clips loosen with vibration. Once a blade has play, wind makes it chatter.

Frame fixings loose

The louvre frame is anchored to the wall or slab. If the anchors were in weak plaster or hollow block, they loosen over time and the whole screen moves.

Blades too long for their section

A thin blade over a long span flutters in wind, especially on high floors. That's a design issue that needs mid-span supports.

Thermal movement

Aluminium expands in summer heat. If blades are fixed rigidly at both ends with no allowance, they buckle slightly and tick or creak as they heat and cool.

Whistling from blade gaps

Wind through narrow, evenly spaced gaps can whistle. It's not a fault, but blade angle or spacing can be adjusted to reduce it. For whistling windows rather than louvres, see window whistling in the wind.

What you can check

  • From a balcony or window, safely, watch the louvres on a windy day and note which blades move.
  • Gently push a reachable blade. Play in the clip shows a loose or broken clip.
  • Push the frame. If it moves, the wall fixings have failed.
  • Look for cracked clips, missing screws or blades bowed out of line.

Repair or replace?

Clips, fixings and mid supports are repairs, and individual blades can usually be replaced. Replace the screen when many blades are bent or corroded, or the design was too light for its exposure. New aluminium louvers can use heavier blades, concealed fixings and supports suited to high floors. The glossary page on louvres explains fixed vs operable and blade types, and aluminium sections covers why section thickness matters. For ventilation openings in an ACP facade, see ACP cladding; pricing factors are in the ACP cladding price guide.

How FabWise handles it

Send a short video of the louvres in wind with sound, plus photos of the clips and frame fixings, on WhatsApp. We'll tell you whether it's clips, anchors or a design limit. A site visit in our Delhi NCR cities is ₹99, adjusted against the bill; louvre repairs and new screens are quoted after the visit and access check. Housing societies can see how common-area work runs on housing societies in Noida.

Prevention

Check louvre fixings each year before the dust-storm and monsoon seasons. Replace cracked clips as soon as you spot them, before blades work loose. Don't hang anything from louvre blades or use them as supports for AC pipes.

Common questions

Why do my aluminium louvres rattle in the wind?

Usually the clips holding the blades have loosened or cracked, so blades chatter in wind. Other causes are loose frame anchors, so the whole screen moves, or blades too long for their section that flutter mid-span. Each has a different fix.

Can individual louvre blades be replaced?

Usually yes. Blades in clip or bracket systems can be removed and replaced individually, with new clips. Matching the profile and finish is easier if you know the original system; send photos of the blade end and clip on WhatsApp so we can identify it.

Are rattling louvres dangerous?

They can become dangerous. Constant vibration cracks clips and fixings, and a blade can eventually fall from height. Keep the area below clear if any blade is loose on an upper floor, and get it secured quickly rather than waiting for the next storm.

Balcony ke louvres hawa mein khadakte hain, kya karein?

Check which blades move. Loose blades usually need new clips; if the whole frame moves, its wall fixings need redoing. Send a video with sound on WhatsApp and we'll tell you whether it needs clips, re-anchoring or extra supports.
