Facade work on MG Road, Gurgaon, is mostly renewal. Get the sequence right

- Frame the fascia. The aluminium or MS frame for the ACP goes up, allowing for the shutter box and signage.
- Glaze. The shop front or structural glazing follows the frame.
- Clad and sign. ACP panels close the fascia; signage is fixed last.

ACP that lasts on a busy road
Not all aluminium composite panel is the same. For a commercial building, a fire-retardant core is the safer specification than a plain polyethylene core. The finish matters too: a cheap coating fades within a few summers on a south- or west-facing fascia, which is behind most ACP colour fading complaints. Shutters that do not wake the street
A shutter that grinds and clangs every morning is usually dry, with dust packed into its guides, or bent slats catching. Glazing on the upper floors
Structural glazing bonds glass to an aluminium frame with structural silicone, with no visible caps on the outside. It needs a sound building face to fix to, and its weight goes to the slab edges, so it is surveyed carefully.
Working around trading
MG Road is busy all day and parking is tight. Scaffolding, deliveries and noisy work are best early in the morning or after closing. Should the rolling shutter go in front of or behind the shop glass?
In front protects the glass and is the usual choice on a busy road; behind lets the glass be seen at night with the shutter down. Each changes the frame, fascia depth and shutter box. Decide before the cladding is designed. We discuss it at the site visit.
What ACP should I use for a commercial building on MG Road?
A fire-retardant core panel with a durable coating is the safer specification for a commercial frontage. Plain polyethylene-core panels are cheaper but less suitable on buildings with public use. Colour and finish quality decide how long it looks new on a sunny fascia.
