Mosquito mesh door not closing in Gurgaon: why it gapes and how to fix it
A mesh door that won't close usually has a dragging track or roller, a weakened magnet strip, a closer or spring that has lost tension, or a frame that's out of square. Clean the track and check the magnets first; a pleated mesh door that binds needs its guide cords re-tensioned.

A mesh door that stays a hand's width open defeats its purpose. In Gurugram and Noida, where dengue season runs from the monsoon well into November, a gaping mesh door at the balcony or kitchen is the main way mosquitoes reach the bedrooms. The fault depends on which kind of mesh door you have.
The short answer
Sliding mesh doors stop short because of a dirty track or worn roller. Hinged mesh doors spring open because the magnet catch has weakened or the closer is too weak. Pleated mesh doors bind when their guide cords slacken or the bottom track fills with dust. Identify your type, then use the table below.
Causes by door type
Sliding mesh shutter
It runs on its own track beside the glass shutter. Grit, hair and insects pile up in the narrow track, and its small rollers wear faster than the main door's. The shutter slows down and stops before it meets the frame.
Hinged mesh door with magnets
A magnet strip on the frame holds the door shut. Magnets lose strength with heat, the strip gets painted over or peels off, and the door bounces back open on its spring hinge.
Hinged mesh door with a closer or spring hinge
A spring hinge or a small closer pulls the door shut. Springs lose tension; small closers leak and stop closing the final few centimetres.
Pleated mesh door
A pleated mosquito mesh concertinas open on taut cords that keep it square. When the cords stretch, or dust packs the low bottom track, the mesh drags at one end and won't meet the frame evenly.
A frame out of square
If the frame was fitted into an uneven opening, one corner closes and the other gapes, whatever the door type.
| Door type | Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sliding | Stops short, needs a push | Dirty track, worn rollers | Clean track, replace rollers |
| Hinged, magnet catch | Bounces back open | Weak or detached magnet strip | Replace magnet strip |
| Hinged, spring or closer | Stays a few cm open | Spring or closer lost tension | Re-tension or replace closer |
| Pleated | One end drags, won't meet frame | Slack cords, dusty track | Re-tension cords, clean track |
| Any | Gap at one corner only | Frame out of square | Re-set or re-pack the frame |
What you can check
- Vacuum the mesh track with a narrow nozzle; you'll often find it full of dead insects and grit.
- Hold a steel spoon near the magnet strip. If it barely pulls, the magnet is weak.
- Watch a hinged door close on its own. If it stops at the same point every time, the spring or closer is too weak to finish.
- On a pleated door, look at the cords at the top and bottom. Visible slack or a sagging mesh means they need re-tensioning.
Repair or replace?
Tracks, rollers, magnets, cords and closers are inexpensive parts. Replace the whole mosquito mesh door when the frame is bent, the mesh is torn in several places, or you want a different type: pleated mesh for a wide balcony with low thresholds, a hinged frame for a kitchen door used many times a day, or a sliding mesh shutter integrated into an aluminium sliding door. Our mosquito mesh types compared explains which works where.
How FabWise helps
Send a video of the mesh door closing and a photo of its track or catch on WhatsApp. If it needs a visit in Gurugram, Noida or another Delhi NCR city we cover, that costs ₹99, adjusted against the bill. Mesh repairs and new mesh doors are quoted after we've seen them.
Keeping it working through the season
Clean the mesh track monthly from July to November, when mosquitoes and insects are at their peak. Wash the mesh gently with water rather than scrubbing. Teach children to close pleated mesh by the handle, not by pulling the mesh fabric.
If the mesh itself is torn, see mosquito mesh torn. For a main balcony door that leaks, see balcony door leaking; for a hinged window that won't close, casement window not closing. Browse the windows and doors range, or see windows and doors in Gurgaon.
Common questions
Why does my mosquito mesh door not close properly?
It depends on the type. Sliding mesh doors usually have a dirty track or worn rollers; hinged ones have a weak magnet catch or spring; pleated ones have slack cords or a dusty bottom track. Clean the track and check the catch first.
Can the magnet on a mesh door be replaced?
Yes. The magnet strip is a separate part that can be replaced without changing the door. Make sure the new strip matches the frame profile and the door's matching strip so they meet squarely. A weak magnet is one of the commonest reasons a hinged mesh door bounces open.
Is pleated mesh better than a sliding mesh door?
Pleated mesh suits wide balcony openings and low thresholds, and folds away neatly, but needs gentle use and clean tracks. Sliding mesh shutters are tougher for heavy daily use. Hinged mesh doors suit kitchens with frequent opening and a closer to pull them shut.
Jaali wala darwaza band nahi hota, kya karein?
First clean its track and check whether the magnet or spring is weak. Most mesh doors start closing properly once the track is clean or the magnet strip, spring or rollers are replaced. Send a short video on WhatsApp and we'll tell you which part it needs before anyone visits.
