On farmhouse entrances of several metres, a sliding gate avoids the huge swing arc and the hinge load of two very long leaves. Its track needs a level concrete base; on rural ground a track laid on loose soil soon tilts and jams, which is how a sliding gate gets stuck. Posts and pillars
Long gates need posts that do not lean. Brick pillars built quickly at a boundary can tilt under a heavy leaf; a steel post set deep in concrete, or a steel plate cast into the pillar, keeps the hinge line true. Lock hardware is fixed to the post too, and a gate lock that stops working after a year is often a post that has moved, not a lock that has failed.
Roof stairs for ground-plus-two floors
Township floors here are often ground plus two, with the roof belonging to the top floor. An MS spiral staircase from a balcony or rear yard reaches the roof without taking space from a room, and it keeps roof traffic out of the lower floors. On an exposed roof, the landing guard at the top must be as solid as any balcony railing.
Grills on outbuildings

Common questions
Sliding or swing gate for a wide farmhouse entrance near Sohna?
For very wide entrances, sliding is usually better. It avoids a huge swing arc, keeps load off hinges and can be automated more easily. It needs a run of wall beside the opening and a level concrete track. A swing gate suits shorter openings with space to open.
Our new gate's lock no longer lines up. Is the gate faulty?

Can a spiral staircase go on the outside of a township floor?
