Replacing Old Steel and Wooden Windows in Sectors 4 to 9, Gurgaon
Most window jobs in Sectors 4 to 9 replace original steel or wooden frames that have warped, rusted or swollen. The old frame is cut out, the opening and sill repaired, and an aluminium sliding or uPVC window fitted with a proper slope and seal. Windows have no fixed rate; they are quoted after a ₹99 visit.

The houses of Sectors 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 9A were built when a Gurugram window meant a steel section frame with putty-glazed glass, or a wooden frame painted every Diwali. Decades later those frames have bent, rusted at the bottom, or swollen until the shutter has to be kicked shut. Replacing windows in Sectors 4 to 9, Gurgaon, is therefore less about choosing a nice new window and more about what happens to the old opening once the frame comes out.
What comes out with the old frame
Steel frames in these houses were usually built into the wall with lugs set in mortar. Cutting them out disturbs the plaster around the opening, and the bottom of the frame often hides a sill that has cracked or lost its slope. That is why a replacement here is planned in three steps, not one:
- Remove the old frame and its lugs with as little damage to the wall as possible.
- Repair the reveals and re-make the sill with a slope away from the house, so rain runs out instead of back in; see window leaking rain water.
- Fit the new frame to the repaired opening, pack it true and seal the perimeter.
Plaster touch-up and painting around the opening are the owner's to arrange with a painter, and that is worth knowing before the quote arrives.
Aluminium or uPVC for an older house
| Window | Why it suits Sectors 4–9 | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminium sliding window | Slim frame lets more light into small rooms; nothing to swell or warp | Quoted after visit |
| uPVC window | Better sealing on rooms facing Basai Road or a busy lane | Quoted after visit |
| Aluminium sliding door | Replaces a heavy wooden door onto a rear balcony or terrace | Quoted after visit |
| Add-on mosquito mesh | Rooms with grills that stay open in summer | Quoted after visit |
Aluminium uses thinner aluminium sections, so a small window loses less glass to frame. uPVC uses thicker, multi-chambered uPVC profiles that seal tighter but need a sound wall to screw into. Our uPVC vs aluminium windows guide and the uPVC window price guide go deeper on cost and comfort.
Grill outside, window inside
Almost every ground-floor window here has a grill, and many of those grills are welded to the old steel frame. Pulling the frame can mean the grill comes with it. Decide at the visit whether to keep the grill as a separate piece fixed to the wall, or have a new one made; either way the window and the grill should be measured together so the sliding shutters still clear it.
Drainage on sliding windows
A sliding window drains water from its bottom track through small slots called weep holes. In a lane where dust settles daily, those slots block, and the track fills during rain. Cleaning them twice a year prevents most leaks.
Booking and timing
The ₹99 visit is adjusted against the final bill. We measure each opening after checking how badly the old frame is fixed in, and the written quotation follows within about two hours, valid for 3 days. After the 50% advance, frames are made to size; on fitting day each room is done in turn so the house is never left with an open hole at night.

Nearby Palam Vihar has newer houses with different needs. A casement window that will not close is sometimes a hinge fix, not a replacement, so send a video first if you are unsure.
Common questions
Will replacing old steel windows damage the walls of my house?
There is some disturbance, because old frames are set into the masonry with lugs. The aim is to cut them out with the least damage, repair the reveals and sill, and fit the new frame to a sound opening. Final plaster touch-up and painting are normally arranged separately with your painter.
Can the existing grill be kept when the window is replaced?
Sometimes. If the grill is fixed to the wall and in good condition, it can stay. If it is welded to the old steel frame, it usually comes out with the frame and needs re-fixing or replacing. We check this at the visit and measure the grill and window together.
Purani lakdi ki khidki ki jagah kaunsi khidki lagayein?
For most rooms, an aluminium sliding window gives slim frames and more light. For rooms facing a noisy road, uPVC seals better. Both are made to the measured opening, and both are quoted after the visit, so you can compare them for the same window.
