Mild steel safety door with a grille panel in front of a flat's main door

Sectors 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 9A sit on the old-town side of Gurugram, around Old Railway Road and out along Basai Road. These were among the first sectors HUDA laid out, and they look it: small and mid-size plots, houses that have grown a floor at a time over decades, a Housing Board colony in Sector 7, and lanes where two cars cannot pass. Many houses now have the owner on one floor and tenants on the others. For grills, safety doors and windows in Sectors 4 to 9, Gurgaon, that mix of age, density and letting shapes almost every job.

Why security work leads here

When a house is split into rented floors, each floor needs its own lockable entrance, and the ground floor windows face a busy lane. That is why the most common requests are an MS safety door in front of a flat's main door, and MS window grills on ground and first floor windows. A safety door that rattles in its frame or will not latch is usually a hinge or alignment problem; see safety door rattling.

  • Grills that open. On bedroom windows, a grill with a hinged, lockable section is worth considering as an escape route in a fire. Fixed grills on every window of a tall, narrow house are a real risk.
  • Fixing into old walls. Older brick and plaster can be soft. Grills are anchored into sound masonry or the window frame, and a grill loose from the wall is often a fixing problem, not a grill problem.
  • Rust at the base. Grills and gates that sit low collect rainwater. Primer, paint and drainage matter more than the design.

Old windows, new frames

Many houses here still have their original steel or wooden window frames, warped and hard to close. Replacing them with aluminium sliding windows or uPVC windows is one of the bigger improvements an older house can get, especially against dust and noise from busy roads. In a tight lane, the practical question is often how the frames reach the upper floors, since a long section may have to go up the staircase rather than be lifted from outside.

The roof is the extra room

On a small plot the terrace is valuable, and a polycarbonate terrace shed turns it into a covered space for laundry, water tanks or a sitting area. On an old roof, the shed's columns must bear on the roof slab and parapet without cracking the waterproofing, and the slope has to drain away from the stairs. A shed that leaks is usually a slope or flashing problem. If the stair to the roof is steep, an MS spiral staircase saves floor area. Tenants sharing the terrace is also why a solid staircase railing up to the roof matters.

Access around the railway crossing

Basai Road traffic queues at the railway crossing, and mornings and evenings on Old Railway Road are slow. We plan deliveries and installation around that, and in narrow lanes material is usually carried the last stretch by hand. Repairs are simpler: a cracked pane or a window that has stopped sliding can be quoted from a photo or video on WhatsApp, with no paid visit. Common questions

How much does an MS safety door cost in Sector 7, Gurgaon?

Safety doors have no fixed published rate. The price depends on the size, the steel section, the infill design and the lock. It is quoted in writing after the ₹99 site visit, all-inclusive for the agreed scope and valid for 3 days. Fabrication starts once the 50% advance is paid.

Can you fit window grills in a narrow lane where no vehicle reaches the house?

Usually yes. Grills are made in sections sized for the window, so they can be carried in by hand and fixed from inside. We check the lane and the stairs at the site visit, and that decides how the grills are split and delivered.

Should I replace old steel windows with aluminium or uPVC?

Both work. Aluminium sliding windows are slimmer and cost less in most sizes; uPVC seals better against dust and noise. In a house on a busy road, uPVC is often worth it. The wall condition matters too, since a new frame needs sound masonry to fix into. We compare both at the visit.

Chhat par shed lagane se leakage to nahi hogi?

Not if it is designed properly. A terrace shed needs enough slope to drain, a flashing where it meets the wall, and columns that sit on the slab without breaking the waterproofing. Most leaks come from flat sheds or bad joints at the wall. We check the roof at the site visit before suggesting a design.
