Choosing the railing

For balconies, a glass balcony railing removes the climbing problem completely, since there is nothing to put a foot on, and it keeps the view. An SS balcony railing with closely spaced vertical posts is the more common choice and is easy to keep clean; SS304 rather than SS202 is worth it on an open balcony. Inside, a staircase railing needs a continuous handrail that small hands can grip, and the gap under the bottom rail matters as much as the height. Grills that keep children in and let people out

Window grills on upper floors stop falls, but a house where every window is fixed shut with steel is dangerous in a fire. The balance most families choose is fixed MS window grills on most windows, with a hinged, lockable section on at least one window in each bedroom, the key kept nearby. An MS safety door at the main entrance lets the door be left open for air while the grille stays locked.
