Gates, Terrace Sheds & Railings in Malibu Towne, Gurgaon

Malibu Towne is a large gated colony in Sector 47, off Sohna Road, with wide internal roads, parks and a mix of independent houses, builder floors and a few apartment blocks. It was launched in the 1990s, early in Gurugram's private-colony boom, and planned around plots, which gives it a settled, low-rise feel next to the towers of Sohna Road. Golf Course Extension Road and the city centre are a short drive away. Gates that have done their time

A house from the colony's early years usually still has its first main gate, and it shows: hinges worn, the leaf dropped so it scrapes the drive, rust at the bottom rail where rainwater sits. Builder floors bring roof and balcony work

As original houses are rebuilt as floors, the roof often passes to the top-floor owner, and a polycarbonate terrace shed or an MS pergola is one of the first things they add. Colony rules and practicalities

• Entry. Workers and vehicles come in through the colony gate; the security desk usually wants the owner's confirmation.
• Wide roads. A delivery vehicle can reach most plots, which makes long gates and shed sections easier to bring in than in older sectors.
• Facade sense. Gated colonies tend to care how frontages look; a gate design in keeping with the street avoids friction with neighbours.
• Trees. Leafy streets mean leaves on shed roofs and in gutters; a shed gutter overflowing is usually a cleaning problem first.
